kevingrass
Hi all, My husband came in the US with k-1 visa and currently in the process of adjusting the status. We are living in NY. He got the learner permit showing "Temp. Visitor Exp. 11-18-08" (the same exp. date as what's on his EAD). Does it mean if he doesn't get his green card before that date, he needs to renew his EAD in order to have a valid driver license? Anyone here has a similar case? I heard the process is slowing down these days due to the increasing number of applicants. So I am worried about what if he doesn't get his green card before 11/18, does he need to renew the EAD? Normally how long does it take to renew it then? Tks. Link to comment

So anyone in NY knows how it works here?Yan had her EAD valid for 1 year? then she received her green card.It took about 5 months for background check. I believe you will need a new EAD and license. Someone here can offer a timeline for EAD renewal ? from post below My wife arrived in SFO on Dec. 28th 2007 with K1 Visa.... No stamp on I-94. Got her SSN yesterday and mailed the AOS package today. Was told the EAD will take 4 months. Good luck. Best wishes, Gino & Lulu Edited January 24, 2008 by lostinblue (see edit history) Link to comment
dnoblett
NY bases the permit on evidence of residency, EAD is only valid for 1 year so NY sets the permit to expire when residency status expires, you should renew EAD at least 90 days before current one expires, and then take new EAD or Green-Card and get NY DL extended. My wife got her permit using green-card, no temp visitor noted because she is now a Permanent Resident, permit expires in 2012. Link to comment
