Greetings from China.

According to the letter from the NVC, my petition was mailed to GUZ at the end of December. I'm expecting it to be received in Feb or March. Is it a reasonable estimate?

In addition, what should we do at this point of the process? I'm still in China with my An. Is there anything needing doing in the US? I won't return unitl the end of the month?

P-2 to interview is around 180 days.

Have fun

You should go to the GongShengChu and get her birth, police and single documents if you haven't done so already.

It has been taking 3-4 months to get P-3's lately. So I am guessing that the end of March or early April is closer to when you will get it?

Hi Jing

3-4 months is a good estimate. I'll get download the fill the DS-230 and OF-169, get the police certificate, birth certificate, single certificate, divorce certificate, check her passport expiring date (the passport needs to be valid for 10 more month at the time of interview) for now. Mail out the DS-230 and OF-169 when you hear P3 is out from DOS and keep on calling DOS. Good luck.

Best wishes,

The police certificate, birth certificate, and single certificate have been taken care of. Regarding the passport, hers is valid until October 2008. Shoud she get a new one?

She can not get a renewed passport until 6 months before it expires. However, once she receives her interview letter, the passport agency will allow it to be renewed at 8 months prior to expiration upon presentation of the letter to them.

You can check my timeline for an idea. It will probably be accepted by the consulate sometime in February.

Ours was sent to GUZ on 11-5-04, name check complete and interview set on 2-8-05 with an interview on 3-11-05.

Let¡¯s make sure all our language/points of reference are consistent here.

Some refer to NOA-2 (P-2) to Interview and others talk about the date the file departs the NVC, to Interview time.

Also ¡®received¡¯ at GUZ, and start of processing/P-3 at GUZ are two different categories in my view. In my mind, 'received' time is when it arrives at the loading dock at the GUZ warehouse. The next reference point is the begin 'processing' time by GUZ staffers.

What Mike says here, may well be true, even though his interview was in late 2004.

While it is a fact that the NOA-1 to NOA-2 times have increased dramatically since May or June, as well as some impact on the NOA-2 to the NVC times due to increased transit times; I am not sure the NVC to GUZ to interview timeline has also been impacted. There is not enough anecdotal information yet, in that regard.

If anything, logic would dictate, that due to the decrease in volume of files, received downstream at GUZ, we may in fact, over the next couple of months, see faster processing times, due to a lull in the overall number of cases entering the GUZ front door, during the several month period the CSC has been so backlogged.

In any event, I am focused on the time the file exit¡¯s the NVC to the time of the interview, rather than P-2 to interview. While in my case, my file received the NOA-2 approval in early November, it exited the NVC on December 11th. It was most likely ¡®received¡¯ at GUZ (the warehouse) by the 15th, and I am hopeful that sometime in February they will begin the actual processing and we will have the interview by late April.

One last side-bar thought; regardless of whether a VO actually sees the case file prior to the date of the interview or not (re: Randy¡¯s recent post imparting info from GUZ speaks) the Consulate in GZ has a whole cadre of support staff who review and process these cases as well as do the required name and data base checks from their location, before the VO gets the file and conducts the required interview. Therefore, I am still of the opinion, that at some time prior to the interview, whether it is days or a couple of weeks, the file comes out of storage and is ¡®processed¡¯ by staff specialists at GUZ, aside from the VO¡¯s.

It is at this time that all of the comments, findings and recommendations, of the USCIS and NVC, are merged with the GUZ name check process and their final data base query, and the results presented to the VO on or close to the interview date. This is why we have the disparity in how the interview is conducted, e.g., those who have very few questions and a cursory or no review of kitchen sink items, and those who have deeper questioning and more thorough review of supporting documents. My opinion has always been, from start to finish, this is a cumulative process, depending on the unique circumstances and background of the individual petitioner/beneficiary.

My only wish, is that with the coming spring, there will be a lot of Pink in the air.

I would say this is not only a home run, but out of the ball park. Excellent post and thought process of the inner workings.

Yep, that GUZ, they work just like clockwork. They've got all those happy conscientious workers toiling away making sure there's no guessing, no speculation, no conjecture, no profiling, no nothing but good ol' honest American effort...just put the ol' kitchen sink together and let the good times roll :D

Good luck guys, you will all be just fine, I gar-on-tee B)

Get your financial house in order. Have you got your tax transcripts for the last three years yet? Now is the time to get them. Also, fill out the I-134, but I would get it notarized after you receive the p3. Start collecting paystubs too and later (after p3) you can get a letter from your employer that says you are employed and in good standing.

Just like everyone said, follow the kitchen sink list on this site and you should be good. Remember there are basically three categories of information they are looking at. The relationship, the finances, and all the misc. forms that need to be filled out.

Besides that, help your SO practice English. Get the list of interview questions from this site and practice them. Make sure your SO is familiar with all the forms and terms. Make sure he/she knows what your job is and where you live, etc.

Good luck!
