Denistry In China

Recommended Posts

We all know how expensive medical treatment is here in the USA. I need some dental work. My SO tells me that denistry in China is so much less then America. She was told by an American man that he saved over $3,000 on his dental work in China compared to the US. My dental work is not this extensive fortunately for me. I need two crowns put on. It hell to get old.

My question to her is: What kind of treatement can you expect in China. Has anyone had a dental experience in China?

I work with two dentists, they tell me that the best fillings to get is silver. (didnt really have time to read all of this but will later) just a thought for you, also. do not get steel! Worst option you could possibly take.

Heading off to So-Cal now to take care of Marines teeth with my Dental Officers, hope the weather has cleared up because a storm is passing over me right now.

I see that some of the posts I wrote have been edited. I am not sorry what so ever that I trumped an Ace from a very superficial person on his comments. We live in America the land of the free. This is a little bit of info that helped make our country and the envy of the world.

1. Freedom of speech and expression

2. Freedom of every person to worship God in his own way everywhere in the world.

3. Freedom from want.

4. Freedom from fear.

If this post is edited and you claim yourself to be an American. Please turn your birth certificate in. Only a traitor to the USA would edit these hallowed words!

God Bless America!

PR,

I only have a short time before I go back to work. However, I agree wholeheartedly with Jim_ Julian, in response posts.

I will make a post later concerning the dental care in China vs the US. I will tell you this much. Dentists in US came up with a cure for my wife at the estimated cost $10,000. Their cure wouldn't have even solved the the disease. They were treating the symptoms and taking cash to boot!

I promise I will post later. The care that my wife received changed my mind forever.

Dave

Phoenix Rising and CFL Forum at large,

This post is primarily directed as a response to PR. However, perhaps you can profit by my words and experiences. I apologize for posting late. I just arrived back in the US, from a fast trip overseas (job related). God! Do I hate red-eye flights now!

When Yin arrived in the US, I had read many, many posts of the same tenure of dentists, in many lands. I¡¯m personally familiar with Thailand and dental re constructive surgery. I was more than disappointed in what I perceived in China offering. Most of all; cost-wise!

Yin had dental problems when she arrived in the US. At first, I didn¡¯t notice her reactions to the extreme of weather conditions. She would hold her hand over her mouth, in pain and simply state that her teeth hurt. This was also compounded by headaches, loss of sleep. These identical symptoms/reactions continued from Nebraska to Okalahoma. The symptoms turned up with not only extreme weather changes, but to air conditioning. to It was at this time that nasal viruses began to arise. Yin termed it as ¡°air-conditioning sickness.¡±

Trying to being a good husband, I took her to three or four separate physicians. Yin was prescribed a variety of steroids, antibiotics and pain-killers. Then they (physicians) decided that her teeth must be removed, because the pain persisted, despite of the drugs they had prescribed and the original affliction remaining. Thankfully Yin, put her foot down, stating openly (and obviously prejudicially) that she didn¡¯t trust US physicians. Most especially, after she was given a $10,000 estimate to repair her problems with her teeth.

I was extremely distrustful of Chinese dentists. However, Yin persisted doing some research through her family (2 are orthopedics surgeons and one is a biogene specialist). They gave her several recommendations. This is a true example of the Chinese ¡°network¡± working at it¡¯s best!

Therefore, she was sent to China on the latest extended vacation I have mentioned, in several posts previously.

The first Chinese physician who saw her immediately diagnosed her with trigeminal neuralgia. He sent her for a second opinion. This was confirmed by a second and also third dentist/physician. All agreed, that there was some dental work to be done, estimate at 5,000 RMB. For those interested in this disease here is the link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trigeminal_neuralgia. PhoenixRising you wrote a post about lack Chronic fatigue. You might be wise to check these symptoms. Yin suffered similar sleep problems.

As a result I had to control Yin¡¯s living environment. Therefore, one of my prime reasons for my move to San Diego. This was the best way I could control the onset of her nerve disorder, still have access to Chinese physicians, have access to the two specialized medications she needed and have a qualified acupuncturist available in extreme cases.

Happily to this date Yin has been extremely happy and no more onsets of her affliction. We are also $9,500 richer from avoiding idiot US physicians and dentists who were IMHO:

1) Out for the money.

2) Would have gotten the money anyways and Yin would still have the same problem.

3) Yin was treated by two separate Dental Professors, from the University. One had been educated in Oxford (I believe), the other had attended several schools in the US. Obviously, not physician¡¯s from Uncle Wang¡¯s School of Dentistry¡±

4) This is the largest thing that really pissed both of us off. We go to US Physicians, six to eight times, pay huge fees (even with insurance and they cannot determine what the problem is. I send my wife to China; she is diagnosed 15 minutes into the examination with the problem. Yin¡¯s problem, is immediately confirmed by two other Chinese colleagues on the first day and a dental/recovery plan is made. To the tune of is paying approximately $500 for the entire cure. How is it that a dental ¡°backwards¡± country find the problem US physicians can¡¯t?

I would agree with some of the preconceived notions stated by posters. Yes you will get what you pay for! If you try to have your teeth repaired for $20.00 and a chicken, you are going to get what you paid for. However, I would suggest that the idea of the US having the best medical system in the world is a lot of bunk. I believe in being a ¡°comparison and expertise shopper.¡± A bit of research is always needed and prudent.

If anyone needs links to these physician¡¯s PM me, or make a responding post so that other CFL members can benefit. I will advise you on one other point, which diverts from the OP. With the fall of the US dollar in the Far East, Thailand has been moving downwards as a medical option. Their costs have been going up, while the US Dollar takes a free fall. However, there are several good hospitals I can give links to.

Sounds like you had a great experience, Cerby. But I think it had more to do with: "However, Yin persisted doing some research through her family (2 are orthopedics surgeons and one is a biogene specialist). They gave her several recommendations. This is a true example of the Chinese ¡°network¡± working at it¡¯s best!"

I have heard from others who also report excellent service and results. On the other hand, I've also heard the reverse. And, yes, one must be careful selecting a medical provider in the US as well.

Fully agree Don. If you have the network, use it. Full research should always be done. And finally the most important, is not to be afraid of second opinions or even third opinions.

Your wife and /or fiancee is the most important thing in your life right now!

DON'T MUCK IT UP!

Just last month I spoke with Leiqin's dental office about their charge for her crown - $900 the girl said. I said phoey. We'll only pay for what our dental insurance will cover!!

Did they say OK?

Drs. Yee and Lee...Hong Kong dentist. The girl said OK. I have very clearly translated this to Leiqin, so that she understands too. And, I had better not be hearing of some bill for additional charges!

Leiqin does not like this "HK dentist" and I have assured her that after this treatment I will change her to an 'American' dentist (that I hope is NOT Asian).

Have you seen the ethnic makeup of medical and dental school students in the USA lately. About 50% are Asian. That says something I think.

Yes let me know Dave because I want Mom and daughter to have teeth checked out when here, might do it there before we leave. But daughter will need to see a dentist before she can go to school here anyway? We also have a new Chinese medical college here in Illinois might check it out, good day at work man! B)

I would hold off on having it checked out there before you leave. There is a good chance they will find some problem between the 2 of them, and there will not be time to properly fix it. If they are not in any pain or infection as of now, don't let them arrive with any. Take your time there and enjoy the pink sunrise and sunsets. You will have plenty of time to research it here and have it done. Then if there is a big problem, you can research it more as Dave's wife did and take care of it there if needed later on during their return visits.

Illinois has a dental form you will fill out yourself for school. All you need to do is check that you have scheduled an appointment within 6 months and your daughter will be good to enroll.
