padre Posted December 12, 2007 Report Share Posted December 12, 2007 Hi, After I registered with the police in Guangzhou, I had to pay a tax for the apartment that I rent. The tax is over 100 RMB per month. Most people in Guangzhou do not pay this tax because they do not report to the government that they are renting their house out. Our apartment owners are pissed at us for following the law. Does anyone else have to pay rental tax because they brought attention onto themselves by following the law and registering with the police. padre Link to comment

Did they ask you where you were living and who your landlords are? From what I have learned in my experiences in China, most (99.9%) people do not report anything that will cost them more money.
