shanghaigale
Take her to the Asian markets in your area, preferably Chinese, so she can see the differences and talk with someone about them. We bought a 5 cup unit from the Korean market. Some people will recommend getting the thicker removable pot, they say it helps when reheating by not drying out the rice. Also plan on buying your rice in the 25 pound bag, Thailand rice is considered better by my wife. We also got a rice dispenser that sits on the countertop, it dispenses in 1 cup increments and only cost about $20. Sure beats having a bag of rice sitting in the corner. My wife likes the Thailand rice the best to. She has tried many varieties and always comes back to the Thailand rice. It is usually the most expensive but we get a 25 pound bag at Costco for about $9 now.GaleYou mean Jasmine rice (with elephants design on the bag).Yep, thats the one. She goes through a 25 pound bag about every two months. We have tried the other kinds of rice at Costco to but she doesn't like any of them. The rices at the Asia markets here are much more expensive than at Costco. It also appears that all Costco stores don't have the Jasmine rice. We went to the Store in CDA, ID once and they didn't stock it. Went back to the one in Spokane and it was still there.Gale Link to comment

Panasonic is also well ranked. Link to comment
jim_julian
Can anyone recommend a good quality rice cooker for home usage? My SO seeks a small one as it is only the two of us, yet I would like one that is of good quality and reasonably priced. http://jjulian.org/pics/5428%20av3.jpg The one on the left and the one on the right are both good quality rice cookers although the one on the right has been known to burn the rice. Both are small ones and reasonably priced. Link to comment
hankster
We have a Zojirushi NS-JCC18 Neuro Fuzzy 10-Cup Rice Cooker & Warmer, they arent cheap but I can tell u that we have had this one for the 5 years Lusheng and the twins have been here and it is still working just like the 1st day we purchased it, I think we paid around 125.00 for it so it has cost around 25 a year into 365, what is that 7 cents a day And I can tell u it gets used everyday...What Mike said about the Zojirushi......... Actually more reasonably priced than Jim Julian's Link to comment

Heheheh ... the one in the middle makes great Thanksgiving turkeys and stuffing that the two "rice cookers" cannot get enough of. Link to comment
warpedbored
Mike is right the Zojirushi is a high quality machine. My wife and I bought an Aroma brand at Costco about 2 year ago. Thought we got a great deal. It fell apart about 2 weeks ago. No more cheapo rice cookers. I bought a 3 cup Zojirushi NS-LAC05 Micom 3-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer, Stainless Steel on Amazon. Great little rice cooker and the perfect size for 2 people. If you get an Amazon credit card they will give you back 30 dollars. We got a $150 rice cooker for $85.http://www.amazon.com/Zojirushi-NS-LAC05-C...2985&sr=8-2http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41NSG173A0L._AA280_.jpg Edited November 26, 2007 by warpedbored (see edit history) Link to comment

MikeandRong
We use a GE stainless steel 20 cupper from Walmart. Cost $35. Works fantastic now for 8 months and used each day multiple times. Makes many different gua soups too. We go through a 25lb bag of rice in 3-4 weeks, so you know this cooker is used well.
