I saw the new train system being built in Zhuhai that stops off in Zhongshan. It is a 5 minute walk from my future home. Be sure and stop in. ;)

The present and future scope of the rail system in China makes our Amtrak look like something from the twelfth century... :blink:okay nineteeenth century then... :whistling: On Hainan Island they are presently building a rail line along the east coast that will connect Haikou and Sanya, reducing the 3 1/2 hour freeway travel time to 80 minutes, with 12 stops in between including our town of Qionghai. Then from Haikou you can jump on a train which is transported by special boats across the straits and on to Guangzhou and all of China.

In Yuxi, Yunnan, our future summer home, we are within sight of the train station which can take us north to Kunming and thence everywhere or, soon, south to all of the southern asia countries. The Kunming to Shanghai run stops in laopo's Hunan hometown which is a rail center. You can go practically anywhere in China on the rails. But bring your own pails of noodles because the train food I've tried was not very good... ;)

So Charles can we stop off directly from the Haikou to Guangzhou route at Zhuhai or do we have to come back from Guangzhou to Zhongshan???

From what I see now, this railway will connect Jiangcun to Zhuhai. I suspect that coming from Haikou then you would have to get on a different train at Guangzhou to travel to Zhongshan. But one never knows this far ahead as their plans might change at any moment B) This train is supposed to travel at speeds of 120KPH so you should not have to worry about food after you get on this train......I'll have some bananas waiting for you

But I suspect that in the depth of winter you'll want to be heading down south to our neck of the woods on Hainan Dao because even the Pearl River Delta can get pretty... :yikes: :redblob: But frozen bananas are good too... :coolthumb:

January is the coldest month which averages a 24 hour temp of 58.6. I can safely say I won't be needing a heater :redblob: You betcha I'll be dropping by during my travels of many destinations in China :redblob: After all, when retired, what else is there to do? :coolthumb:

58.6... :cold: Ah I feel for you Charles... :tv_happy: but you can warm up down on Hainan anytime you're in between those travels...We were planning on traveling a lot too but laopo is now convinced that by that time the mighty US Dollar will be worth about 0.5 RMB so we may be living on cold noodles and renting out rooms to folks on vacation... :yikes:

I will beg to differ on the huge depreciation of the USA dollar but that is only my opinion and hope  58.6 is a long ways from the Wisconsin winters and also that of Georgia's winters somewhat. I will feel honored to have a CFL placebo mod as a neighbor :D

Congrats on your new home Charles. I bought one in China 9 Mos. ago, and they haven't even finished it yet. It will be finished by the time my Lao Po gets her advanced parole, we will go back and check it out. I've been told the prices have since gone up since we bought it, not even including the depreciation of the dollar.

Thanks Mike  I am soooooooooooo happy about the purchase. My wife told me last night that the prices have gone up again 500RM m2. I would say that 9 months ago you got a very good deal. If you don't mind me asking, where in China is your house?

It's in a town called "Conghua", about 30 miles outside of GUZ, how about yours?

I am in Zhongshan which is a 2 hour bus ride southwest from GUZ. Looks like we might be neighbors :) I'll look it up on a map.

I see you are just northwest of GUZ. When the new train service is finished then a trip from my house to GUZ will take just a few minutes. Looking forward to meeting you there someday. :D

My Lao Po says Zhongshan is in the other direction. We paid 3760 RMB / M2. Now the price is 5000 RMB / M2. Of course when you buy a house in China, all you get is a hole. We will still need to spend 100K RMB to decorate it. But it has a panoramic river view. It will be real nice when it's done. Here is the website of the real estate. http://www.chfdc.com/fz/lou3.asp
