I-485 Sent Finally

Recommended Posts

Well today I finally had everything I needed to submit my I-485 application to Chicago...I looked it over one last time last night and I did find a few small errors...I noticed they ask for you to put the "A" number on attachments, which I had one for her long address in China...I also noticed they ask for CAPS on the I-864 so I quickly did another and put it back in the package...Everything else seemed good so I'm hoping everything goes smoothly...My only ONE concern is that my wife is technically out of status...Since we got married within the 90 days I am hoping this will not hurt us but I am a little nervous about it...The only reason it took so long to file is that we had to get the required shots before going to the civil surgeon...I felt it would be better to delay the application now and have everything we needed rather than send in an incomplete application...I have talked to and read about how many people feel just the opposite, they'd rather send in the application quickly and risk it...I just personally felt better doing it this way...Anyways...I've made it in before the price increase so I guess I can only sit back and wait now!...

Good luck to everyone else on the AOS journey!...At least we have the ones we love by our side now!...

Hi Signal. Glad to see you also made it before the deadline.

First, let me disclose that we filed for my wife after the 90 days as well. I think we were a little past 120 days. So I'm in your same boat. I don't like filing after the 90 days and I certainly wouldn't recommend others file after 90 days, but from what I read on VJ, there are vehement fascists over there who claim it's absolutely legal to adjust status any time past the 90 days. They even go so far as to claim it's completely legal and perfectly fine to even wait 2 years and adjust status directly to the 10 year GC. I do NOT recommend this route, and argue against it, but there are vocal forces who claim it's completely legal. So I don't think you need to worry about this. :cheering:

Good luck to us all.

Being out of status is not a problem and wont hurt the process.

The A# they are referring to is the Alien Registration number that may be on the backside of the I-94 card, and may also be printed above Yan's name on the I-129F approval notice.

Glad you made it in before the increase, I know from Yu chatting with Yan, that Yan has been mop slapping you to get this done.

I sent my 485 on Tuesday and just got this message from tracking:

"Your item was delivered at 4:42 AM on July 26, 2007 in CHICAGO, IL 60680"

It made it there. The only thing I forgot to do was make 4 copies of the biographical page. I sent one good copy; I hope they will accept it that way. And, yes, I did get the 693a supplement done. Good luck to everyone. :D

If G-325A that seems to not be a problem. Note it is not 4 copies of the page, G-325A is a 4 page document, fill in page 1 and print out all 4 pages, each is slightly different so they are not "4 copies".

They'll probably get me on that because I only sent the one page.

Yes, I've read on here many times where people have said it would not cause a problem being out of status...That the K-1's purpose is to just get married within the 90 days, that there is no mention of having to file within those 90 days...

My wife got into Chicago on March 11 so it has been over 120 days for us too!
