I need to bump this up to the top.

My friend Mike needs help from any wives who have experienced and gone through depression, separation anxiety, after arriving.

His wife Ling arrived earlier this year, went back to Chongqing after a few months here, returned to America last month and now tells Mike that she wants to live in China. She will wait for him until he retires...they can have a baby, but she will raise the baby in China. Her parents have told her to stay in American with her husband.

Are there any Chongqing wives who can call and talk to Ling?

Wow, good luck Mike. I'll be watching this thread for advice/answers.

Lao Po is completely commited to living in the States, but I KNOW she doesn't really understand what she is getting herself into. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about this as quickly as possible. I've told her that we should be able to split our time between the two countries, but financial conditions can change and I don't want her to feel trapped.

Best Regards

she is very depressed tonight says her family does not understand her

she just wants to go back to the way things used to be but since her family does not want her to come back she wishes to live alone in china

That is a very tough situation to be in , maybe you can develop a support system for her here with CFL members wives and if she is that depressed , she maybe in need of of medication . Depression is a treatable disease and most people respond from medical care which changes their whole out look on life .

Also Depression makes people chose some really bad personal and financial decisions .

I find it hard to believe that her life here is worse than what she would have going back to China alone and without the support of her family

Regardless I hope that you will continue to be the one person she can rely on .

The world is really made up of very different people with very different likes and dislikes. I am so envious of her living in Santa Maria. I think your wife is so lucky. Yet, she probably feels very lonely and isolated being in a small town with very few other Chinese or Asian people. :) I do empathize with her.

michaln, I wish you the best in trying to help your wife through this very emotional time. One question, would it be possible for you to relocate to another part of CA, like the LA area or the SF area, where there are more Chinese and Asians so your wife may feel more comfortable? Just a thought.
