Not sure where to put this. But here it is.

 

I have a fried that was married to a USC. He since has died. She has her green card. She wants to go back home for a visit after 4 years of being here. Will the green card let her travel back to the USA on her homeland visa?

Yes Green card allows travel out of country, it is needed to re-enter the USA.

 

International Travel

 

A Permanent Resident of the United States can travel freely outside of the US. A passport from the country of citizenship is normally all that is needed. To reenter the US a Permanent Resident normally needs to present the green card (Permanent Resident Card, Form I-551) for readmission. A reentry permit is needed for reentry for trips greater than one year but less than two years in duration.

Ditto to the above answers. If her passport name is different than her green card's last name she might bring along the marriage certificate just in case. I have heard of people whom have traveled with different last names on the passport and GC without any problems, but you never know...

You can also have the Chinese consulate make a notation of the name change in the passport.

I did this with my wife. It ties her name to her green card and also to our son's last name. When she went back to China, I had her take our marriage certificate and his birth certificate, Never need either one, but it is always good to travel prepared.

My wife visted China with her passport in her maiden name and her green card in her married name. She had no problem. You do need to get the plane ticket in the same name as her passport though or they won't let her board the plane.

So do i fill out all Doc I-485, 131 etc in married name her passport is in her maiden name and the two name do not resemble each other except her married middle name she retained her family name for her middle name

Any airline tickets purchased to go to China should match the name on her passport.

 

Her green card should match the desired ID she will be using. Take a copy of the marriage certificate when traveling to China in case there is any confusion at the US POE on the return trip.

 

You may get an extension to her Chinese passport which would show her married name and eliminate most confusion.
