Walk out of the Consulate.

Turn left, walk to the corner.

Turn left, walk 1.5 blocks.

You will probably see a lady sitting on the sidewalk holding an infant. She was there 24 hours a day during my last trip to Guangzhou. And it was very cold end of jan. I could never see what she looked like because she would keep her and the baby covered up with a blanket.

My fiance refused to let me help her.

I don't know the situation in China if those panhandlers are the same as in the U.S. and just looking for enough cash for their next bottle of booze or not.

That's very interesting. I saw a very poor old lady sitting on the sidewalk in the poorest part of Nanning. I pulled out 10 yuan and was going to put it in her plate and my SO jumped all over me and said, no, no, and she was serious. I just moved on but wondered about it. Certainly my SO knows poverty, but did not want me to help this poor woman.

It's not that she does not want you to help the poor woman. She knows once you drop that 10 yuan in her plate you might not be able to go home that night. Next thing you know you are surrounded by panhandlers. They are watching you from the dark.

Best wishes,

By golly it is very difficult for me to distinguish the beggars on the street that are truly homeless or the ones that have been mangled, burned, blinded and crippled by the BLACK HAND factions in China and put there to make money and make money they do, it¡¯s true so who do you give to? Some of these BLACK HAND guys that put these misfortunate souls there ride around in brand new Mercedes or even more exotic vehicles than that Those that have been put into these awful conditions have someone watching over then from somewhere near by to make sure that they are not cheated by them and to protect their investments. It is indeed hard. I have even seen articles in the China Daily about these issues. There are other ways that we can help though. You can usually tell the real beggars very easily by offering them something to eat if they take it he is truly a poor unfortunate. If he refuses it he is put there by the BLACK HAND and will not accept anything but money. If he or she does they will be severely dealt with.

But what about the orphanages that are just as bad how many of them if any have any of us ever visited when we are there on out fantasy trips. These are true actual abandoned children that are not part of any BLACK HAND organizations as the general public don¡¯t see them but some of these people that we see on the street come from these places and are maimed an put on the streets for begging. These children have simply just been thrown away. Visit one sometime when you are there if they will let you. Some won¡¯t. because they are so terrible. Just think what a couple of hundred dollars would do for just one of these orphanages but on second hand the proprietors may just keep the money for himself/herself so I usually just take 5-6 large buckets of KFC to them and you will never forget the looks in their faces for receiving this gift and they can put it in their stomachs and not in the proprietors pocket or stomach. The best of these children are sold for $25,000 to $35,000 each to wealthy Americans and people from other countries as well and the children do not get once single fen from the proceeds. The government gets it and the proprietor of runs the homes, if that is what you can call them.

I know that a piece of chicken is nothing but it is something and they get it directly it don¡¯t go in someone else stomach.

I don¡¯t like to keep harping on this matter but it touches and disheartens me very much I guess because I was brought up so poor. I heard someone say once that ¡°it¡¯s heard to feel sorry for poor people when your belly is full¡±.

After all aren¡¯t we taking the very best away from their country by marrying our mostly collage educated wives that are the best that China has to offer.

I can¡¯t help but feel that each trip we should give something back in return if only in a meager way.
