SirLancelot
Hmmm... I was thinking of some issues surrounding deportation of illegals and it suddenly occurred to me that most illegals don't have passports from their countries. So for this specific example, let's say there is an illegal immigrant from Mexico in the US who is about to be deported. But how does the US government know he is Mexican? You can't just say he looks Mexican or that he speaks Spanish and that's why he should be deported to Mexico. Additionally, why would the Mexican government accept this person as a Mexican national without proper ID that indeed he's a Mexican national? What am I missing here? How does the US government prove this ID-less person is Mexican and why would the Mexican government accept this person as a Mexican national? Link to comment
Randy W
I think if he has a choice between Mexico and being detained, he'll choose Mexico. Link to comment

Randy W
Problems do crop up, though - more than 39,000 Chinese remain in the United States even though they have been issued final deportation orders Link to comment
Ron&Sasa
It is hard to determine this, I work for the GOV. We found several illegals working here and they where deported. We find them when there paperwork does not look right. The last group (14) of them where found to be using the same SSN on there employment information. This leads to checking every document, they are all detained until the process is complete. Link to comment
MRMC
Yes between being detained or deported they will choose Mexico so they can try again and again and again. Link to comment
SirLancelot
Problems do crop up, though - more than 39,000 Chinese remain in the United States even though they have been issued final deportation orders This article touches upon the exact issues I was thinking of. Interesting it used the same words I used as well. But it doesn't really give an answer as to how they determine ones origin. If the passport is destroyed, or better yet, they never had one to begin with, how does DHS determine the nationality of anyone? Link to comment
