totup
My finacee "Sophia" has her scheduled K1 interview on November 14. The interview time is 7:15 AM so I suspect she will be one of the first to be seen that day. She will be accompanied by her son "William" who is 17 years old. We have everything in order and don't expect any problems. I would like to know any of the following: 1) people's experiences at the interview ... what kind's of questions will be asked, how long it will take, anything we need to watch out for, etc. 2) Sophia will come to the USA on Nov 20 but William wants to stay in Beijing to finish his second year of high school before coming. This would be in July, or about 8 months after the interview. I think the K2 is good for 6 months only. Can they ask that this time be extended at the interview or is this something that cannot be changed? 3) will they get their visa's on the same day or could it take up to 3 days like it says in the P4 material she was sent by Guangzhou. david_dawei
Everyone gets the same appointment time.. there will be a line forming for all those with appointments. IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW EARLY YOU GO: They will call you by predetermined order once at the 5th floor anyway.. you might only want to show up early so as to simply get in the door earlier but line placement does nothing else for you. 1) There's tons of experience here.. most of it is collected. Follow this link and scroll down to the Interview FAQ.. this is going to be your best single guide for the interview. You can look at the P4 FAQ if you want to see what to do about the medical, paying the visa fee, etc. http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=19303 2) There are a few who have been down this road.. I'll let them comment 3) She will be notified of the outcome at the interview; pickup is two business days later at the post office. The outcome is not truly final until that visa is in her hands... since they can have a post-outcome change... so don't celebrate until you see it in her hands. Link to comment
Randy W
David - isn't it true that someone who arrives late (while they're still admitting) would simply get placed at the end of the line? In other words. if you sleep late, wouldn't it simply mean that the line is shorter at that time? I believe they admit applicants until 10 or 11 or so. Link to comment

I'm not sure if there is more than ample seating or not, etc.. but if one wants to pick a seat, get up a little early. Recently, someone said they got there quote late and was brought in.. I think they will accomodate you the best they can. ---- As to the options for interview: Look at this thread about 'follow to join' and getting the an visa 1 year later.. and an 'extension' option: http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12786 Link to comment

Do NOT have him attend the interview, and do NOT get a visa for him, until he is ready to use it. The K2 follow-to-join option is easily (and readily by GUZ) activated at any time by the petitioner. follow to join USCONGUZ comments I don't think we have heard back from anyone who got a K-2 visa extension. Both Leefisher3 and myself have gotten K-2 visa's by emailing GUZ to activate the K-2 sometime after the interview. Link to comment
LeeFisher3
I believe a few people have had the K-2 interview at the same time and requested that the issuing of the visa be delayed, in that case they would issue the visa at a later time, but the interview would be completed. There are a couple of critical dates to consider when asking for a delay, the name check and police report. Both have a limited life, the police report is easy to get, but if the name check expires you could be in for a delay of a few months while it is done again. I would recommend your SO talk with the VO about delaying the visa issuance for 3-4 months to accomodate completion of his school year. Link to comment

Our K2 interviewed with her mom. We are now, 5.5 months later, trying to get the K2 installed in her passport (life of visa is only six months after it is in passport) so she can emigrate about 11 months after her mom, when she completes high school. Our problem is getting an appointment in the next couple of weeks. The Visa Call Center, which seems to control all appointments like this, does not have any slots available for about a month. VO told the girls that if the K2 was issued more than 6 months after the K1 that a new police report and medical were needed. This doesn't mesh with the usual 1 year validity for these items. We are corresponding with GZ via e-mail on this issue but any insights you might have would be helpful. Link to comment

No police report for Jiaying was required (I assume hers' had been sent to the USCIS). We had not provided a police report for him before him. USCONGUZ reply for Lee K2 forms needed, from USCONGUZ How to equest an Interview We emailed, and also wrote a letter. A P3 was then mailed to her son. 2 weeks before our recent trip, I emailed GUZ that we would like to have the interview during that time. He got the P4 within 3 days, and an appointment for the first week of our trip! Link to comment
