any ideas of where we are left with her social security, i really dont know where to turn to other then a lawyer to fix this mess that longwood florida SS field office seems to have put us in.

i dont know if it is directly the field office we should blame it on, but it does seem a bit strange of how it happen.

when we went out the first time to get her social 3 weeks after her arrival we talked with a lady who pointed outon her visa in her passport that the K that the VO hand wrote on it looked like a B.

it was messy but it was definitly not a B.....

he wrote a cursive small k

well when we went back to the field office after we never recieved the card in the mail like it was prom ised to us...

she turned the monitor around and it said B1

she said she was not aloud to give a B visa holder a social.

i noticed on that screen also that there was a save button on it...

like the field office has the opportunity to change records...

im wondering if she saw that it looked like a B not a K and changed it

they knew they made a mistake of sending out the paper in the mail saying that her social would be arriving in 2 weeks and if we dont get it to call the office.

i called the office and they said they had to talk to ChunYan and could not say anything to me.

but now what should we do....

how will this EAD work when it arrives

does she still need a SS card?

or is this EAD a so called temp social...??

It's amazing how many times the local SSA office screws up!!

I would go to a different SS office and ask to talk to a supervisor.

Explain that she came here on a fiance visa and that there is a typo in her records.

If those people are also brain dead, go to a 3rd office and ask to see that supervisor until you find someone smart enough to realize that it is just a typo and is able to correct it.

Good luck!!

As I recall they gave you a letter saying you would receive a card in the mail initially. This is the best tact to take with them because you are outside of the limits for them to begin issuing a new card.

Explain to the person that she applied and was given the letter saying they would mail it. Show her the visa that clearly shows K-1 status and remind them this was the evidence given when she applied. Obviously someone at SSA or DHS has made a mistake and you only wish to have this corrected and receive the SSN as promised.

Don't get angry with them as it will only get you escorted out the door or worse.

If the person doesn't give you the correct answer after discussing this ask for a supervisor, and if they don't give the right answer ask for their supervisor.

Make sure to take a notepad with you and write down names and times for each discussion along with any notes you think are appropriate.

The big trick is to out last them, if they state DHS policy ask them to provide you with a copy of this document. If they make a claim you want them to prove it to you. Also take all of the documents that provide for how they are to handle K-1's for getting an SSN.

You basically want to stay at the window, all day if needed, asking questions and getting clarifications and when they can't provide you proof of what they state as fact tell them that it must not apply as they are not able to prove it to you.

Make sure your wife takes a bottle of water and some snacks in her purse so after a while you can have a little picnic at the window.

Hopefully this will get your result, but if nothing else you can be entertained while they try to figure out how to get rid of you. We did a bit of this getting a name changed and it was fun. :)

I also agree with Randy.

The EAD will take care of it. That means that I hope y'all aren't in any hurry to get a job or anything because it can take up to 4 mos. to get the EAD card.

But once she gets it, there's alot she can do with it; get a DL, SS, bank account, job.

It took the EAD for my wife to get the SS card. She was K3.

So, if possible, sit back and relax and wait for the EAD. After that will be the AOS appointment coming along and then one day it all will seem like a distant memory. It'll be a story you can tell your children about! :D

-good luck
