As a bunch of you should know I have been in China throughout this whole process so I have had to have family members call the correct agencies in the states. Well to make a long story short my grandmother told me by e-mail this morning that Diana's name had finally been taken off hold. I am not sure what that means, but it is giving us a feeling of hope, at least a little bit. On a side note when I called GZ this week and actually talked to an American lady she told me the name was not on hold at all, but in actuality there was a hit on the name. Not sure what the difference is, maybe it is because my wifes family name is one of the top 3 most popular names in China.

No difference... If there was a hit, then it was technically on "hold" vs other folks with no hits.... until further research and cross-referencing and then they realized your sweetie was not Bin Laden sister in law after all,, and cleared that up. :o

End of story.. You are in the clear.

Congrats Dan ! :-)

Dan,

Great news.  If only they have middle names (some do),  then there won't be so many people with the same names. I bet my gal's case is taking so long is because her name is too common.

Tony... Yuhui's last name falls in the top 10 in China... I'd like to think that it would be the reason ( common name thinggie ) , but the lotto factor hits me again.

That's great news Daniel. Looks like progress at last. If this "hit" business is related to names, I count myself extremely fortunate. Li has one of the most common names in China and it contains only two characters. I guess we were really lucky on this front. Good luck and I hope your case makes fast track progress from this point on.

Maybe that was the problem the whole time, my drivers liscense from when I was 21. I had a full beard and all my students over here say right off that the picture looks like Bin Laden. So 3 months in Europe growing a beard is what has been holding us up so long, I guess I shouldn't have been in France those 5 times.  :D

Eric,

Yuhui's Last name is common but her first name is not. Both my gal's first name (Yan) and last name are common.

I still don't believe in that "common name" hold.. Otherwise, why would those holds start only recently?

Remember it was only in the last few months that they were required to keep the name if it had no hit in the first 30 days. They have been changhing so much so fast even they don't know what is happening. I wouldn't be surprised at any new development that had no reasonable explanation. How many times have you seen reason in what they do anyway?
