do single certif. expire?

Recommended Posts

If my fiance get this single certif. now (with the local police agency, I presume), it can still be used later for the P3 P4 stuff, yes? Logistically speaking, wouldn't all single certif. expire when we get married and get a marriage certif.? If so, and it'll still be viable when the time comes for P3 P4? Geezus...

If you get married and file for CR1, nobody will be asking your "wife" to prove she's single. :toot:

You will have already proved you are "married"....in China, where the Chinese authorities require proof you were both eligible to marry.

No worries.

PS: Don't do what I did on the G 325 A for my I-130. Under YOUR information and again on your wife's, it will ask for name of husband or wife. Remember that you are married and put the name there instead of "none". I'd only been married a few days and she was halfway around the world. I was so used to thinking of myself as single I automatically put "none" in the space for wife. I did the same on hers. Doh.

Single certifcate is done at the Notary Office and as was said it would not be needed at the interview, something about she would be married.

But to get married in China your SO doesn't need a single certificate, unless something has changed since we went. You just need to go to the consulate in Beijing and get your marragiability certificate to get married. Like the others said, after you are married you will never need it again. You only need it to get married, not for your immigration application.

Help us help you......can you go to 'my controls' on the website, and then to 'edit signature'. There you can post your details about your visa, such as what visa you are applying for, what dates, where you are in the process, etc.

That gives everyone an idea about your timeline. Thanks and good luck !

brutrigem is teaching in China and hasn't started the process yet.  Only trying to get a handle on how the process works before starting.  I think plans to apply CR-1.

In that case, I def would not get the single or police certs until they are in the process, at least wait until P2 or P3.

To clarify Ken, they'll only need the single certificate BEFORE they file any paperwork, since they'll be... married... before filing CR1 as DCF.

yeah exactly what Katrina said, I haven't even started the process yet (haven't even gotten married yet ) but most likely I'll be filing DCF for a CR-1, but the strange (and slightly unsettling) thing is that my mother has enquired several immigration lawyers in US about the DCF process, and almost all of them have said it's better to file a K1, or to file a K3 from US.

It is certainly better for any US based Attorney. They are not likely to collect any fees if you file DCF. Once the Visa is in the passport, there is absolutely no difference. Unless they are giving you compelling reasons to back up their recomendation, I'd toss it.

Another approach they might take with her is telling her that the paperwork is more than most people are able to handle and requires a professional touch.

Based on your questions before the process has begun, you have a better handle on the process than many Lawyers do to begin with and you are in the position to do what they can't, shave a significant percentage of the processing time just becuase you are already in China. Try to get them to guarantee you faster completion on K-1 or K-3 that a DCF.

Everything I have seen here shows the DCF the fastest!!!

Good luck!!
