castaway109 Posted November 15, 2005 Report Share Posted November 15, 2005 The I-134 is an immigration visa application for family members to come to the US (spouse, child, brother, mother, etc.) The I-864 is a financial, legally binding paper that says when you bring a person in on a visa, you agree that they will not need government support (welfare) while they are in this country. The I-134 is a financial document stating that you can and will support the benificiary of your visa petition--much like the I-864 except that it is used by GZ for K1 and K3 visas. It is the I-130 that is used o pettition for a visa for an alien relative. Link to comment

The I-864 is a binding document that does not go away until the beneficiary has 40 quarters of work according the the SSA. Count it as 10 years of full-time employment before it goes away.
