Good news, bad news

Today they finally had lechee nuts. I got hooked on them in China where we would buy them by the limb full. These are no wheres as good. Probably from Mexico.

The one's we get here are from Florida. $3.50 a pound. I like them, but still, I thought I would be glad to see them run out. Now the Longan is here . $5.00 a pound. Yue's family grows them at home, so naturally we will be buying them as long as they are in season.

Around here they say you may get sick if you eat too many, but if you drink salt-water you'll be cured. I only ate a couple of dozen at a time but they are totally out of season in Shenzhen and now I'm eating langans (the little brown ones). I like them almost as much as lychee. My SO doesn't know the English name for them. Is there one?

Here are some basic methods of fruit consumption for your health & beauty:

 

Apple

 

 

Healthy Eating: Healthy for stomach and digestive system

 

Treatment 1: An apple after a meal

 

Good for: Stomach and sensitive skin

 

Treatment 2: Apple soup

Boil 7-8 sliced apples with pork in water for 1 hour 45 minutes

 

Good for: Strengthening the digestive system. Especially suitable for people with weak stomach.

 

Treatment 3: Apple skin

This contains a nutrient called Cyanidin.

Good for: Helps reduce vomiting

 

Avocado

 

 

Healthy Eating: Rich in vitamins. Strengthen heart function and reduce cardiac disease. Regulate lipopprotein and cholesterol. Favour dietary.

 

Treatment 1: Avocado Milk

Juice 1/2 avocado with a pinch of sugar and 1/2 cup of milk

 

Good for: Enhance the digestive system. Improve skin beauty. Provide a sense of fullness and ample nutrients for dietarian.

 

Banana

 

 

Healthy Eating: Good for digestive system

 

Treatment 1: Two bananas with skin, steamed for 45 minutes and eat without skinning

 

Good for: Constipation

 

Treatment 2: Rock sugar & banana

Two bananas simmered with rock sugar for 30 minutes

 

Good for: Coughing

 

Treatment 3: Eat bananas regularly

 

Good for: High blood pressure and constipation

 

Note: Asthma patients are not recommended.

 

Cherry

 

 

Healthy Eating: Moisturises skin and improves complexion. Soothes rheumatism. Rich in iron which is required for the production of blood cells.

 

Treatment 1: Cherry soup

Boil 250 grams of cherries in water for 40 minutes

 

Good for: The breathing system, as well as for skin moisturising and beauty

 

Treatment2: Cherry wine

Soak clean cherries in wine. Drink often.

 

Good for: Especially suitable for rheumatism.

 

Durian

 

 

Healthy Eating: Keep the body warm, enrich the blood. It is claimed that durian contains stimulant for inducing passion though individuals may have differential reactions.

 

Treatment 1: Eaten raw/Durian Milk

 

Good for: Reinforce body fluid and nourish the blood. Ideal recipe for women.

 

Note:

1. Heart disease patient not recommended as durian has very high fat content. 2. Durian has hot and dry nature. Too much will cause bleeding nose and affect the liver.

 

Golden Pomelo

 

 

Healthy Eating: Abundant vitamin C and D for skin whitening and melanin reduction. Cure indigestion, relieve tipsiness and bad breath.

 

Treatment 1: Eaten raw/Pomelo juice

 

Treatment 2: Stewed Pomelo skin with shrimp roe Use only the inner soft white skin to avoid bitter taste. Soak skin in water for 3 days. Change water twice a day. Stew with shrimp roe for 25 minutes. Adjust seasoning.

 

Grape

 

 

Healthy Eating: Good for arthritis, helps to prevent swollen joint problem

 

Treatment 1: Grape wine

Drink moderately

 

Good for: Knee and back pain, anaemic

 

Treatment 2: Eaten raw

 

Good for: Especial for women as it is high in iron; good for complexion and beauty

 

Guava

 

 

Healthy Eating: Treat diarhoea and diabetes

 

Treatment 1: Guava Juice Drink before meal. 3 time a day.

 

Good for: Diabetes

 

Kiwi

 

 

Healthy Eating:

1. Rich in Vitamin C, prevents bone cancer and throat cancer

2. Strengthens immune system, teeth and bones

3. Helps to prevent blood vessels blockage and impotence

4. Helps to lower cholestrel

5. A kiwi fruit can provide a day's need of Vitamin C for an adult

 

Lemon

 

 

Healthy Eating: Speed up metabolism and recuperate vigour. Strengthen the vessel tissue. Favour Hypertension patients.

 

Treatment 1: Hot Honey Lemon

 

Good for: Skin beauty and whitening - reduce melanin, remove dirt and grease. Improve acne skin.

 

Treatment 2: Watermelon Lemon Juice Juice ? lemon and reasonably amount of watermelon. Add 2 teaspoon of honey.

 

Good for: Ideal for body fitness.

 

Treatment 3: Lemon Leaf and Pork Soup Boil 20 lemon leaves with a piece of pork for 3 hour. (For better effect, use pig's lung)

 

Good for: Lemon leaf has a mild nature. Good for the stomach, reduces phlegm and relieve coughing.

 

Lychee

 

 

Healthy Eating: Good for health, especial for the stomach, liver and skin.

 

Treatment 1: Lychee congee

Boil water with rice for about 1- 1/2 hours. Then add flesh of 15-20 lychees. Boil for another 15 minutes only, as overboiling will turn the fruit sour.

 

Good for: The stomach

 

Treatment 2: Lychee tea

Boil 8-11 lychee flesh into water and a generous amount of American Ginseng for 25 minutes.

 

Good for: Blood circulation. A good stimulant which boosts energy. Reduces drowsiness, therefore, do not drink before sleep.

 

Treatment 3: Dry lychee

Eat about 3-4 dry lychees a day

 

Good for: Improves endurance of vocal chords. Recommended for singers and lecturers.

 

Treatment 4: Lychee skin soup

Wash lychee skin then boil in water for 40 minutes.

 

Good for: Sore throats. Excessive eating of lychees may result in sore throats, drinking lychee skin soup can help resolve this.

 

Note: Lychee has a high sugar content. Diabetes patients not recommended.

 

Longan

 

 

Healthy Eating: Enrich the blood, soothe the nerves. Good treatment for insomnia and amnesia.

 

Treatment 1: Dried Longan Ice Tea Boil dried longan with crystal sugar for 20 minutes.

 

Good for: Beauty and complexion

 

Treatment 2: Dried Longan Paste Stew dried longan with sugar until becoming paste..

 

Good for: Soothe the nerve, cure neurasthenia, insomnia and amnesia

 

Treatment 3: Longan Lotus Seed Congee Boil 18-20 longan flesh with lotus seeds and a handful of rice for 1-1/2 hour.

 

Good for: Anaemic, soothe the nerve.

 

Loquat

 

 

Healthy Eating: Moisten the respiratory system and relieve coughing

 

Treatment 1: Stewed Loquat Stew with crystal sugar for 1/2 hour. Eat day and night

 

Good for: Sore throat. Quench thirst, moisten the respiratory system and refresh the vocal voice.

 

Mango

 

 

Healthy Eating: Healthy for stomach and quenches thirst

 

Treatment 1: Eaten raw

 

Good for: Helps reduce dizziness and vomiting

 

Note: Diabetes patients not recommended, as 14% of mango is glucose. Mangoes are not suitable for weak stomachs as it may induce diarheoa.

 

Melon

 

 

Healthy Eating: a hydrating fruit for satiny and beauty skin. Give a sense of refreshment.

 

Treatment 1: Melon Milk

 

Good for: Complexion and skin

 

Treatment 2: Melon Lemon Juice

 

Good for: Melon Juice with 1 teaspoon of lemon juice

 

Orange

 

 

Healthy Eating: Full of Vitamin C, helps digestion

 

Treatment 1: Orange peel and pork soup

Boil a generous amount of orange skin and pork in water for

1- 1/2 hours

Good for: Stomach-ache

 

Papaya

 

 

Healthy eating: Helps digestion, good for sore bones. Papaya nutrients are used as painkillers in medical use.

 

- reduces soreness in foot joints

- good for breastfeeding

- improves digestive system.

 

Treatment 1: Cook papaya with pork or fish

 

Good for: Weak stomach

 

Treatment 2: Papaya sweet soup

Boil the papaya and rock sugar in water for 40 minutes

Good for: Complexion and skin

 

Peach

 

 

Healthy eating: Invigorate the circulation of blood, lubricate the intestines.

 

Treatment 1: Peach Juice Drink day and night

 

Good for: Hypertension, constipation

 

Treatment 2: Peach Kernel Soup Boil a few peach kernels (sold in Chinese pharmacy) and dates, 2-3 slices of ginger, a cup of rice wine in water for 30 minutes. Drink twice a day for 2 consecutive days.

 

Good for: Abdominal pain, amenorrhoea

 

Pear

 

 

Healthy Eating: A hydrating fruit, soothes sore throats and coughs

 

Treatment 1: Fresh pear juice (hot drink with honey)

 

Good for: Moisturising for skin and lips, especially suitable in autumn/winter. Suitable as a unisex regular beauty treatment

 

Treatment 2: Pear and pork soup

Boil 4-5 sliced pears with pork in water for 1 hour 45 minutes.

Good for: Soothing sore throats and coughs, this soup is especially suitable for winter.

 

Persimmon

 

 

Healthy Eating: Moisten the respiratory system and relieve coughing. Prevent hypertension, apoplexy and reduce wrinkles.

 

Treatment 1: Persimmon Juice Juice 1-2 half-riped persimmon. Drink daily.

 

Good for: Hypertension

 

Treatment 2: Persimmon Leaf Tea

 

Good for: Boost vessel elasticity. Flatten wrinkles. Suit for hypertension and coronary heart disease.

Avoid:

1. Eaten on an empty stomach

Elements in persimmon will combine with hydrochloric acid and affect digestion.

2. Eaten with yam

3. Eaten with crab

Cause indigestion. Induce diarhoea and vomiting.

 

Prune

 

 

Healthy Eating: Good for digestive system and healthy gums

 

Treatment 1: Eaten raw

 

Good for: Bleeding gums

 

Treatment 2: Dried Prune

 

Good for: Constipation

 

Strawberry

 

 

Healthy Eating: Clear-sighted, maintain vigour and improve skin complexion.

 

Treatment 1: Strawberry Apple Milk Juice 3 strawberries, 1/2 apple with 1/2 cup of milk.

 

Good for: Sharp-eyed, hale and hearty. Appropriate for people with hypertension.

 

Treatment 2: Strawberry Juice Juice 5 strawberries. Add 1 teaspoon of honey/sugar, a few ice cubes and a dash of lemon juice.

Star Fruit

 

 

Healthy Eating: Reduce phlegm, relieve coughing and stomatic ulcer.

 

Treatment 1: Star Fruit Honey Juice Add honey to star fruit juice for drinking

 

Good for: Pharyngitis and stomatitis

 

Watermelon

 

 

Healthy Eating: Reduces heat, quenches thirst, reduces sickness

 

Treatment 1: Fresh watermelon juice

 

Good for: Reduces high blood pressure

 

Treatment 2: Melon skin soup

Boil a generous amount of watermelon and winter melon skin in water for 1 hour.

Good for: Drink 3 bowls a day as treatment for Diabetes.
