goneflying2000
After sending an inquiry to GUZ as to the status of our CR-1 I was surprised to receive a response in only 10 hours. Maybe they really do care (just joking)Anyway here is a copy of the response. Thanks for your email. After NVC notifies an applicant that they haveshipped the petition to the Consulate, typically it takes 60 to 120 days forfile/petition to be received and processed by post. This time periodincludes the time required to clear China's customs, security screening ofthe boxes when they are received by post, and then sorting and processingtime for the Immigrant Visa Unit. Randy W
I got a personalized repsonse in only 2 hours Sunday night (after opening) - I timed it to get there at 8AM Monday their time. They are fairly good with the email, but, like they say, use only the form at www.usembassy-china.org.cn/guangzhou/iv/email.html "Yes, she will need to resubmit the DS-230 part I form to us. If she has acopy of the form, she can fill out the copy and send it to this office. Yuanyang
... This time period ...includes the time required to clear China's customs, ...138446[/snapback]I don't understand this. These documents are official US government papers why aren't they exempt from Chinese customs? Like say diplomatic pouches. No doubt that the mail and packages received each day is enormous. Our people need to be protected so security screening is a must, and the sorting, warehousing, queueing must be a serious undertaking. Link to comment
vibes1313
You're right Bob. Chinese Customs rarely ever hold a package. The security screening of the boxes is the kicker. Before the move, this meant they were collecting dust in a storage room at the White Swan Hotel because of yes, another understaffed U.S. Government agency. Link to comment
Guest blsqueaky
That was quick. I normally get one back in about 2 days, this time I am now waiting for 6 days since my last one. I do not think that they liked it very much Link to comment

Thanks for your message. The captioned shipment was sent to Immigrant visa section ofGuangzhou U.S consulate, it was held by CAN customs and required the consignee tooffer the customs cover forclearance due to the heavy weight of 437kgs. We have informed the consignee, Ms Kerry, the requirement immediately when we got thedecision from cusotms, and who replied that would apply the customscover for clearance, butthe application time would be taken more than one month . We have kept pushing the consignee for the customs cover offering, but the answer is stillapplying .Only when we get the customs cover can we clear the shpt. By the way, Could you pls advise us your idetification : Shipper orconsignee or third party? Should you have any query, please let us know. B.rgds. vibes1313
Honestly I remember once this past February getting an email response in less than two hours after I sent it to GZ. I was shocked. Link to comment
