does anyone have an idea how long it takes for the back ground check to be completed before the paperwork is sent to Hong Kong

A couple of weeks to a couple of years. Sorry, it's very difficult to estimate - too many variables. If I were a betting man, I'd say start calling them in 4 - 6 weeks. Unless things have changed, you probably won't know when they're done unless you ask them or you get your P3.

I called the NVC once a week until they told me it was completed and sent to the Consulate. Like frank said to many variables, the majority make it through in the 4 to 6 week time frame, and every once in a while someone gets stuck in "Name Check Hell"

You have entered the infamous "Black Hole".

 

Could be a short ride or a long one.

 

This step doesn't have much of an average.

 

Give it a month or two then inquire about you case via email.

Unfortunately, I will tilt the duration to the long side.

NVC says that my application has been selected for "secondary background check of beneficiary" - sent to Washinton D.C. to "the Agency". It has now been 4 months in this black hole. It sure is bleak down here,

Sorry to hear that Phil. After we received the NOA2, I kept an eye on nooneufos invaluable timeline that proved to be amazingly accurate. It kept me from even thinking about the background check.
