nousername
At one time my wife wants to go to dental assistant school (8 months program). Dental assistant makes $12 to $20+ an hour.yeah, this is a great option too. great hours, good pay. only drawback is working in slimy, smelly mouths. but maybe it's not too much of a problem.... work in pediatric dentistry, then even if it's bad, at least the cuteness of the kids might make up for it. also, have you notice how the "gear" of dentists and assistants has increased over the years... man, it's like they are preparing for a nuclear war!! i remember as a kid they *might* have put on a mask over their mouths, that's it... now, they do that in addition to saftey glasses AND a full face shield! is my mouth really that repulsive? CR1togo
I'd vote for pharmacy tech over nurse. Nurse's assistant, LVN or RN work hard get paid well and probably miserablely long hours at night to begin. but, if it's what she wants.... In Calif there is a waiting list for the nursing program. Call your local schools and ask them about their program. My daughter-in-law spent 18 months getting into the nursing program DESPITE having excellent academics at both high school and at THAT North Bay community college. She did get some of her prerequistes and required classes out of the way. Also I don't know the original posters location but a lot of casinos (seems they are everywhere now) employ Mandarin speakers to attact the gambling fond Chinese clients. acw Link to comment
Yuanyang
My wife's cousin is training to be a card dealer at Mohegan Sun Casino. They always looking to hire Chinese workers at Casinos.Interesting.I noticed on the Poker TV programs that the dealers usually are Asian (Chinese?). Why do you suppose that is? (I really don't mean to sound like a jerk.) Link to comment

Dan R
Jews statisticly are not gamblers but they also give the income to the wife to manage the household. However because Chinese love gambling there is a demand at casinos for English/Chinese speakers. Also it seems the Asian woman is regarded as attractive but not flighty which is a desirable image at the tables. Stereotypes do influence hiring at the gambling places. Next time check to see if there are more young blondes serving cocktails or dealing. Link to comment
yuehan123
I don't think so.Agree. Once gambling "he" is not about to give his paycheck to anybody but the table. Link to comment

Guest Gene
I happen to agree. That's that last thing I would have my wife doing.133047[/snapback]I decided when I entered this relationship that it would be a partnership and neither one of us would " have or have not" to do anything. My goal is to make her comfortable and happy. She wants to work so that she feels that she is contributing to the family. Where ever she chooses to work I will support her. If you feel that work such as that is below your standards and would not "have" your wife do that then direct her not to. After all it is your choice not hers. Link to comment
jim_julian
My lao po also wants to work ... maybe this is silly ... it's gonna take a year. Does anyone have any direct experience in the conditions working at a Chinese casino? Yuqin certainly loves to play cards and, maybe I'm prejudiced, she is very beautiful. I had a sister-in-law who dealt blackjack at Tahoe and made significant money without too much hassle. However, when it comes to SoCal casinos my antennae are up ... is this safe? Link to comment
Dan R
There are a number of Chinese women at the So Cal Casinos. While I haven't been to the casinos, I have met several Chinese women waitressing in San Gabriel while studying to be dealers. I've never heard of there being any problems at the casinos here.
