Communism no problem!

"Europe has a communist system now, the US has a socialist system now, and China has a capitalist system now"

"China is working, saving, educating, learning, and minding its own business, with old world values and new world gusto, as opposed to ... well, you also know."

"The fact that China is a much less expensive place to manufacture is not due to socialism, because socialism has gone bankrupt and does not exist any more, at least not in China. I cannot say the same for California."

"There are plenty of folks who would welcome the return of socialism, like what exists in California."

"China is a cheaper place to manufacture because it is a poorer place, having been pick on, worked over, and triumphed against all odds, only to stay in bankruptcy until the powers that be saw the light, just as United Airlines is a cheaper airline to fly than (name an airline that has not gone through bankruptcy)."

"China is a better place to manufacture because it is a better place to manufacture. Obedient, well educated, enthusiastic workers eager to put in an honest days work with great care, in old factories, and then new factories, built with savings, and established with investment."

Bubba: I agree with most of what you said, but you are way off on the United Airlines comment. United Airlines HAS been in bankruptcy proceedings for many years now and their future is very uncertain as they have posted record losses for their last few quarters even with the help from the courts.

So even thought they never asked your SO . how did she answer the question on the GNI-2 form? I gather she answered in the positive and they still didnt question why?..Thats reassuring if so.. I guess it would be a good idea to have a statement written out just in case the next VO does question the answer..

Just to clarify the history:

Shortly after getting the GNI-2, I emailed them and asked them if the Communist Party of China fell into the category of a Totalitarian party. They said to answer "yes" on the GNI-2 and that they could start a waiver for us before the interview, but she would have to come to Guangzhou. Then I asked another question and they went on vacation. As far as I know, the waiver process was never started.

In the morning, she signed the GNI-2 in front of a CO and asked them about the waiver. The CO said the waiver wasn't necessary but we would have to write out a statement, which we did over lunch. There was a specific form that listed five or six issues we had to cover in our statement, such as:

1. when did you join

2. why did you join

3. what position/titles did you have in the party?

4. what benefits have you gained from joining the party?

5. in what ways do you sympathize with communist party principles?

6. if you quit the party, when did you quit

In the afternoon interview, we brought pictures and other evidence to show that she needed to be a member for the sake of her job, but the interviewing CO never asked for it.
