Wondering how to get police check

Recommended Posts

Ok we are wondering how you get the police record. We have not been able to figure it out. Also our interview is coming up and we are wondering for what reson that she would be turned down. We have lived together in China for 1 d a half years and meet here while we were working

The city notary where the hokou is can prepare all the needed documents. The police department there can supply the statement that she is not a criminal. The City Office would also supply the statement of marriage. Do you have the affidavit of support worked out? It seems that is the most difficult to do when working in China and returning to the U.S. unless you are staying with the same company.

There's debate on this 'reasons issue'.. but I'll give my take.. your chances are improved the most if:

1) She speaks english good enough to do the interview in english

2) Your time together, since the submission of the K1, is at least a few visit

3) You have ample evidence of the continuing relationship (pictures, correspondence)

4) All your documentation is in order and within the time frames they expect (ie: documents are not too old)... financial I-134 is certified; employer and bank are available.

If either of you have been married before, particularly your SO, there could be a few questions more.

All this said, there's no guarantee you won't be asked to provide more evidence.. which means a return to a second interview, normally the request is for a video showing you two can communicate or an updated document...

There's an existing FAQ on these issus, see page 3&4:

I'm building a much more lengthy one.. I can give you if desired... PM or email me.

In our case we first went to the local notary and got a "police check table", we took that to the PSB station for her district (her registered Hukou). The police did a search and gave her a paper that stated she had no criminal record in China as of such and such date and of course the obligitory red stamps (took about half an hour). We then returned such to the notary to finalize and translate it (about a week wait). acw

OK, is the avidavid of support the -864 form?

we are both pretty young, im 26 and shes 24 so i had my parents sign the 864 form, um, i dont have a job when we get back so im not sure on that. She worked as a translator in shezhen, and a university teacher in the 2 years shes been outta university, so her english is "pretty" good. Ive lived in China he whole time ive known her, so we have been living together for a bit.

You also have to do the I-864, job or no job.

Jack just went to some certificate office where his hukou is and they gave him some statement that he took to the notary office, for both police record and birth certificate.

You can read our story - we had no problems. Of course, two little buns in the oven probably helped. But if you are prepared, you should be okay. Make sure, even if you don't have a job lined up in the US, that you have something (a letter offering an interview, for example) showing what you will be doing, as well as some kind of ongoing ties to the US.

If the interview is for K-1 or K-3, use I-134 for the Affidavit of Support. If it is CR-1 or IR-1, then the I-864 would already have been sent to NVC during their processing.

Ross: What visa type are you applying for K1, K3 ??
