  1. That's why several times after work, I told my husband "Your US has no hope". Working at Wal-Mart as a casher, in one year, I obviously feel more and more people are using food stamp & WIC. Do they really need food stamp, I'd say no. I saw a white woman paid with food stamp for purified water and pops only, in total 55.55 dollars. A woman with 5 kids picked up 6 pops from fridge, each 1.48 dollar, while on the shelf, 2 little bottle only cost 1 dollar. A mexian couple paid 311 dollars for food, wine, just a swing cost 109 dollars, and then a wic about 68 dollars for baby fomular. Do they need WIC, I believe NO!I even see both mother and daughter use food stamp. For several times I complainted to my husband the thing people buy with food stamp while we both work and can not offer, people with food stamp buy really nice toys for their kids while I can't buy for my daughter. One day my husband said "my biggest wish is that we can shop like people with food stamp". He is half joking though, it's also half true.

Being a Chinese, I know some chinese are cheating the program. It's not a problem with Chinese, it's with every race, black, white or Mexican. I am glad that both my husband and I agreed that no matter how hard our life is, we'll work hard by ourselves to raise our kids. To us, it's a shame to live on government. I don't know when people here can learn it's a shame to take advantage of it.

  2. What a lot of people do is have a wedding ceremony in China without actually getting legally married. It seems to go a long way toward making the family happy while at the same time not delaying the visa by starting over.

Hey guys that is a wonderful suggestion, Because my finance and her family is very old fashioned or traditional, It allmost seems to be a black eye for me to visit and stay with her when we are not married, I think a formal announcement and some type of ceremony is in order, We will do everything except register it with local officials, Thanks

That is what we done, also

  3. I have been to a few zoos in China. The Beijing zoo was probably the best, but even there the tigers were kept in too small of cages. That included several HUGE Siberians.

In Shenzhen, there was a brand new tiger area at their zoo. Looked pretty nice. Don't know about feeding, but the bridge/walkways above the tigers seemed way too low. This was about 3 months or so after those idiots in San Fran taunted a tiger into jumping 11 ft and killing one of them. Some Chinese people were yelling at the tigers below in Shenzhen, and told Ying maybe we should split and related the San Fran story later.

They did have ligers and tiglons in the Shenzhen zoo which were interesting to finally see.

Unfortunately I think the Chinese public needs more education on how to treat animals at a zoo. I saw several people giving cigarettes and candy to the chimps. I also saw one college aged girl find a long piece of bamboo lying around and she began whacking and poking a sleeping jaguar so her boyfriend could get some pics of the cat getting pissed.

I was also offered a chance to get into several cages for pictures with various animals for around a 100 RMB. This included a panda. I saw several examples of previous photos there with people hugging the panda. Does anyone remember the news story about the panda that keeps attacking people at the Beijing zoo?

Surprised it's not happening more often with these opportunities to hug a panda!

The less said about the zoo in QingHuangDao the better, I guess. I'll end it with I never thought I could feel sorry for a crocodile until that day.

I think we was at the same zoo. You could pay exta to go through a special caged walk to see the tigers better and to feed them. The tiger show was sad to see. The tigers clearly had their teeth pulled and I am sure they were declawed also. I felt sorry for once such majestic animals being defenseless. They seemed to be very skinny to me. All of the Chinese people was enjoying the show including my wife until I pointed out to her that they had no teeth.

  4. The best advice I can give you is for you to tell your husband to be to get off his lazy ass and research this stuff for you. It will be easer for him to do it. What did he do while waiting for the k1 visa? He should know all this stuff already. You have too much on your plate to deal with.

It is time for him to man up and take care of you.

  5. I think your chances for your husband to get a tourist visa is higher than you think. If he fails to get the visa it will not hurt his chances for getting other types of visas in the future. My wife tried to get a tourist visa and failed but had no problem with the K1. It is my understanding that it is much harder for a chinese woman to get a work or tourist visa than a chinese man.

  6. I feel for you and your stepdaughter. I wish we lived closer so that maybe my wife and her could give each other some comfort.

There are many members here who have step children like yours. Maybe we should encourage them to become chat friends so that they can share experiences and find ways to help each other cope.

Adjusting to change is not easy for children, especially at her age. When your wife feels homesick she has you to give her comfort and to hold at night, your daughter has no one.

  7. It is hard to find gifts to bring to China because it does not seem right to give "made in China" items.

Cigarettes are traditional and common to give. If they do not smoke or are trying to quit they still can pass them on to their friends. Any major US brand will do.

Vitamins are good for the old. Calcium supplaments because milk is very expensive in China. I had a request for omega 3 fish oil, I bought Spring Vally brand from walmart. Interestingly all these items are much cheaper in the US.

Chocolate is good for the younger people. Plain M&M's, Snicker Bars and Hershey's Kisses are the favorites. If you know someone who likes spicy food then I would recommend "Cow Girl Spicy Chocolates" http://www.scottrobertsweb.com/Review-Cow-...picy-Chocolates or Chuao Chocolatier bars http://www.scottrobertsweb.com/Review-Chua...-Chocolate-Bars these can be bought at Walmart.

Have a great trip! I just got back from China myself
