  1. I just know from personal experience (married for 11 years and been around her friends), some Chinese spend a lot of time "saving face". They spend a lot of time placing extreme importance on how others perceive their worthiness. Example, I live in Maryland. There is a county in Maryland called Montgomery county. It has a pop of 1M and has the highest income in the state. The schools their are the best in Maryland (but this doesn't necessarily equate to the best). Lots of Chinese will burn a hole in their pockets trying to buy a small 800sqft town house in that region. Just to tell others that they live there....
  2. http://qz.com/158282/china-may-actua...-in-the-world/ Kind of makes sense. I know a lot of Chinese who immigrated and are living here in the states...... India falls right behind...
  3. What's the honest answers.... How is she a M.O.B??? She's not living in a poor situation etc..... She's of "age"... My wife just suggested this because she wants to have some relatives "here" in the U.S.....
  4. Sorry, I meant Catfished... People who pretend to be someone who they aren't online. Usually for purposes of fraud (i.e. obtaining money etc....)) http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=catfished
  5. My wife's cousin want's to find an American man and eventually move to the U.S. to live with him. My wife indicated that some of her friends have used Match.com and Date.com???? I understand that those sites cost around 15 or so a month. What other sites are there for this type of situation. Reliability is a question because one of my wife's friends used a few sites where she was catfished multiple times....
  6. We are trying to get my wife's father into the us on visitor's visa. My wife has is a LPR with a few months left. My wife's mom passed away decades ago and my wife has a stepmother. However, they are unmarried. They have lived together several years. When we filled out the ds-160 we placed "Domestic Parter" as the maritial status. My question is during the visa interview he will want to bring supportive doucmentation. Besides pictures, what type of information does he need to provide.
  7. My wife came into the United States under a K-1 fiance visa. Unfortunatley the spouse that she intended to marry abused her and they didn't get along. They tried for a year or so it didn't work out. My wife and I met in 2002 and got married in 2003. Unfortunatley since I wasen't the petitioner on the original K-1 visa she can't adjust her status though me. We consulated multiple attorneys and each of them stated she had to leave the United States and apply for a i-601 waiver for the 10-yr bar. The waiver was approved about 3 weeks ago. She is sitting in guangzhou right now waiting to pick up her visa Thursday morning!!!!!!
  8. Well after almost 2 years of fighting my wife can finally come home. We've been waiting for this moment for a while now. After the i-601 and sending two books of hardship to the consulate she has recieved visa approval and has visited the guanzhou consulate twice to drop off her passport and recieved a document indicating her visa is appoved and to come thursday to pick it up.
  9. OK My wife is in China. She is trying to immigrate back to the US. Our attornies filed with the NVC. They sent them back the bar codes for the forms and request for additional documentation. Since my wife was in the US for about 5 years or so they are requesting a Maryland State Police Record. My wife has never been arrested or any kind of criminal/civil trouble. However, the state police will only issue certified letters through a completed fingerprint card. The problem is that she is in China. I'm also concerend that she probably won't do it properly and it will become a back and forth bullshit in the mail. I found various public records systems online where you can pay a small fee and obtain a record on a person. Our attorney said the NVC won't accept this. The attorney assistant said the attorney can email the police station and get it for us but it's a $150.00 fee???? How can I get a background check like the attorney can. This seems weird?
  10. I'm assuming you are I-130. I filed my DS-230(Part 1) online last week. Hopefully it will be finished next week along with the AOS and then forwarded onto Guanzhou within a 1-2 weeks. The DS-230(Part 2) is taken to the interview by the applicant(your wife). .... so to answer your question, maybe about 2 months. Yes, We've filed and I-130, I-864 and I-824. She just filed the dS-230 part I I believe last week. Is there a receipt number? Your saying 2 months or so? Did you send it to your attorney? IF so, I would think he didnt send part II of DS-230... because that is take with your wife to the interview. Only part I is sent in to NVC. If you mailed in the forms... you should be finished in 2-4 weeks. I wasn't sure if you had just started with NVC. I would call NVC in about 2 weeks with your NVC # or CIS # and talk to an operator. We actually sent it to our attorney. He in turn sent it to the department of state. My wife situation is very different as she is doing a "touch and go" since she was illegal in the United States and had to leave and come back. That is one of the reasons why we had to do the I-824.

  12. How long does the DS-230 (part I and II) usually take? Our attorney is saying 6 months. However, I've heard different times depending on who I ask?
  13. Agree 100%. The best reference I can give you is this person. She is the best I know of and I can not stress enough the importance of contacting someone. You really should go into this as best prepared as you can. At the minimum, set up a phone conference with her and get some real answers from someone that knows. http://visacentral.net/ Again, do not let her leave the USA. http://immigrate2us.net/forum/showthread.php?t=6104
  14. Good point, File I-130 and I-485 together, and when AOS interview happens, and they tell you at the interview that there is an inadvisability problem, you then file an I-601. All this time wife remains in the USA and does not leave without AP. Why can she not adjust in the USA? Because the BAR is not triggerd until she leaves the United States. That's why most have to leave the US to file the I-601. In some cases you can file in the united states if the inadmissability had been triggered here. But it's not triggered until she leaves. If we were to file the I-601 while she's in the country they would pretty much deny it because there is no reason to file one.....
  15. If you want to talk to someone about the I-601 then talk to cfl member dcwfn. Do a search on topics posted by dcwfn. He is the only one I've seen here who had to deal with the I-601 and getting his wife back to the states from China. It took him a long time but he finally got his wife back to the states. I think you can gain alot from him and I'm sure he will be more than happy to help. Send a PM to him. -good luck Above all, DO NOT let your wife leave the country before you figure out what your options are. My wife came into the United States with a K-1 Fiance visa. She overstayed her visa and didn't marry the petitioner of the visa. She married me instead (the usc) 4 years latter. She's been in the US illegally roughly 7 years. She can't adjust her status though the marriage of me. Absolutley no way impossible. Because she broke the rule of the K-1 visa. The only way is for her to return to her home country and file and I-601. I've been in contact with dcwfn actually recently because I've been seeing his topics when googleing i-601 and guanzhou. We've been though several attorney's to try to find some way of adjust her status in the US but it's impossible. We did file and I-130 which we could do and it was approved. But we have to do the i-601. I was just wondering if any body had any experience with the guanzhou consulant.
