  1. Interview Details I did not have a chance to go back to China to accompany my wife for her interview, so she went there by herself. When she passed the last security checking, a Chinese officer collected all applicants¡¯ tax return of 2007. The VO is a White man. Very nice and patient, but seldom smile. He interviewed a mother with her son without a translator, but he called a Chinese lady officer to translate my wife respond. The following are the VO¡¯s questions and my wife¡¯s (W) answer. W. Good morning. V. Good morning. May I see your passport? W. Here you are. V. When did you begin to know your husband? W. Since the summer 2005. V. How? W. Through our best friends. Mr. XX had been my husband¡¯s student and Ms. XX has been my best friends for many years. They were dating when introduced us to each other. V. Do you have your husband¡¯s 06 tax return? W. He submitted it when he sent his financial support for me to NVC. So you should have it. V. OK, do you also have 05 tax return? W. Yes, here it is. V. Do you know the date when your previous interview was denied? W. Yes, that was on xx Month, xx Day, of 2006. V. Do you know why? W. I guess, since we haven¡¯t receive any official reply, there are two reasons: a) we did not have the detailed phone record, but a bunch of calling card. I misunderstood your consulate requirement¡ªall the language other than English should be translated into English. So I only selected some very simply emails that my husband wrote in English. However, I could only understand very little English. V. (nodded his head) What do you do for living. W. I already retired. I live with my mom who has an income. My husband mailed me the money periodically. V. How your husband switched to his current job? This job is far from his original major. W. My husband is very smart and hardworking (she forgot to mention that I had been an IT employee for many years). While he does his current job, he is still doing old profession. He is very accomplished man. I have his current employer¡¯s letter. Every year, he got promotion. Do you want to see? V. No. Why your husband changed his job? W. Make more money. V. How could he? W. Through a training class. V. Do you know its name? W. Sorry, I do not know. V. How many times have your husband visited you? W. Three. V. Can you remember each of those three times? (my wife cited each of those times, but she missed two days of my second trip¡ªfor wedding, then the VO asked again when he was reading the data from his computer screen. Then my wife told VO the correct dates). V. Do you have photos of your wedding? W. Yes. (my wife handed over the whole album where all our photos were categorized into three periods and with the English explanation. VO noticed that my wife had a lot of updated pictures, including one shot in my office with my wife¡¯s picture on the desk and my computer screen showing all the graphics I created for my job). (While the VO was checking our pictures, my wife asked the translator if she could pass our wedding news issued on local newspaper. This time, the VO corrected my wife in Chinese). V. She is not miss, but Ms. W. Sorry. (then VO made a joke to the translator and both of them laughed). Then VO opened the drawer and my wife saw the three color slips were there. She was so nervous. Then VO picked up the pink and gave it to my wife. W. Thank you very much! We have prepared everything we could think and my wife brought a very heavy bag of document. We have all the bank statement, mutual funds, 401K, CDs, the Deed of our house title, money order, all the receipts that we received in China, joint tax return, the copy of ITIN from IRS, the certified copy of my wife¡¯s passport from the US Embassy, greeting cards, emails, phone records, all the nutrition medicine I bought for my wife and her mother, all the notarized docs, such as the evolution of our relationship, my passport, all my flight tickets plus the boarding passes, copy of my company security badge, I-864, all photos, tax returns, the receipt of my donation to China Earthquake Relief, all the affidavits from our matchmakers, best friends, and translator, and so on. I learnt all my experience from the CFL. If I had known this website, we would not loss several years waiting in suffering. I sincerely thank all of you who helped us, who showed a great sympathy on our denied case, and who cheered for us when we finally passed the interview. GOD bless those who are the true lovers!!!
  2. Thank YOU, everybody!!!!! If you or your wife have already passed the interview, I hope you have a very happy and enjoyable life in the US. If you have not, I wish you or your beloved have a very smooth interview. As I said, I will posted my wife's interview details later. If it will help some of the members in their future interview, we feel so happy.

No matter what, it IS a great experience being here, being helped and supported, and helping the others. I admire those of you who had helped me and the others so dedicatively, especially when I had hard time. I truly appreciate!!! Will keep you posted. I pray for my wife.

  6. Jeff and Jianli, Excellent JOB!!! Congratulations!!! So impressed by your such more-than-enough document prepared. You may become the consultant or the VO in next month (just kidding). Anyway, so happy for you!!! Dong
  7. Congrats for your interview time. Sincerely wish you the best luck on the interview. I remember you helped me on the passport certification in US Embassy. Thank you very much!!!
  8. Dale, Thank you for your information. I also sent an email to GUZ. If they answer my question, I will keep you posted. Dong
  9. My wife was scheduled an interview on July 11, Friday. Two days later will be Sunday. Does anybody know the post office open on Sunday? If she passes (cannot afford any more blue or white slips), I do not know if she has to wait until next Monday.
  10. Your true lovers deserve the PINK!!! Congrats!!! Congratulations!!
  11. Thanks a lot for your advice! It's usually picked up two days later at a post office in the Guangdong province, although it has taken (rarely) as long as a week. I think you can only have it mailed within Guangdong. All other locations must pick it up at the local post office close to the consulate. So you must wait in Guangzhou and pick it up there.
  12. When you said "............. pay for ems to deliver the visa(s) and passport(s) to the post office so you can pick them up in 2+ days gives the ems tracking number.", did you mean that our fiancees could pick up their visas and passports that their local post office, instead of waiting in GUZ for extra 2 days? I have heard that GUZ could not allow the visa go any post office, except the designated one in Guangzhou.

It shouldn't be a problem. We did ours at the Embassy in Beijing and we got the ITIN about 3 or 4 weeks after filing the form/taxes. They never asked any questions. Good luck! Do you know how long the notary can be done, instant or have to wait several days? Should my wife bring her national ID or any other document? Should we call to schedule appointment?

Thank you all for your valuable information! I filed the 07 joint tax return. As required by IRS, my wife has to get her passport certified. I called IRS and an officer told me that the P. R. China was on the treaty country list. However, when my wife went to the goverment managed service in Tianjin, even the manager had never heard of Hague Convention and the English translator did not know what the "Apostille" was. However, they told my wife they had certified so many document that never had any problems. So we did not have choice, but got her passport certified in the regular way. Now, my submission was turned down by IRS saying the certified copy was not acceptable. Since it is the National holiday on May first, nobody worked in the Notary Service in the US Embassy. I checked their website and here is what they said. "What we CANNOT do: • Service of process The American Citizen Services office is not authorized to serve legal documents in China under the Hague Convention. Detailed information on the service of process in China please visit the U.S. Department of State website at http://www.travel.state.gov/law/info/judic...694.html." Then I called an officer in IRS. She double confirmed that they could accept the certified copy done by the notary from the US Embassy. Hopefully, my wife's notary procedure will be smooth.

Does anyone know the services in China that notarize and certify the document based on the Hague Convention? My wife was applying an ITIN and was trying to get her passport certified in Tianjin, but even the manager there had never heard what the Hague Convention was. As a rule, the certified copy must have a "Apostille" form attached.
  17. CONGRATULATIONS! SO HAPPY FOR YOU! I THINK ALL THE MEMBERS HERE WHO HELP AND CARE THE OTHERS DESERVE THE PINK! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR ENCOURAGEMENT FOR THOSE WHOSE PREVIOUS K-1 CASES WERE DENIED, BUT ARE STILL STRUGGLING FOR THEIR TRUE LOVED ONES.
  18. I just want to know where my package is. and I m sick of waiting. I know nothing I can change. its been 2 month, just drive me crazy. I have been waiting 3 years. Try and relax it will get there. 3 yrs, seriously? why take that long? Yes I first applied in March of 2005, got a denial in August of 2006, refiled Cr1 in July of 2007 and I am still waiting on my NOA2. If you are in your normal time frame then try and feel blessed. I wish you the best of luck and patience. May I ask you if the VO told your fiancee or wife what the reason was in her first interview? Did the GUZ allow you to start over? Is there any negative influence on the next?

  20. Count on 3 months from NVC to P3, about 4-5 weeks from P3 returned to P4, and about 4-6 weeks from P4 to Interview. Your time and mileage may vary. Thank you all for your great information. Same journey, shared love, and good luck to every of us!
  21. Count on 3 months from NVC to P3, about 4-5 weeks from P3 returned to P4, and about 4-6 weeks from P4 to Interview. Your time and mileage may vary. I hope that is true ILS, need a nice present for sure!!!
  22. Are there any books or web links that discuss what the VO may ask during the interview? We have gone to several of the major book stores in China, but found nothing about the immigrant visa (for spouse) interview preparation. And how long approximately does it take from the time GUZ receiving the packet from NVC to arranging interview? Please advise. Thanks! Dong
