  1. I want to thank everyone who replied to my question. My immigration lawyer told me that she would need a "visitor visa" from Canadian embassy/Wash. D.C. in addition to taking her US Greencard and Chinese Passport.....I had a feeling her explaination was "halved baked". When a lawyer hesitates when giving an answer, my intuition light inside my head goes off. Our immigration process started back in October 2001 and 10 years now I still laugh at the bad information that floats around with lawyers. Candle has been an reliable source of information that cannot be replaced...it is priceless.
  2. My chinese wife and daughter want to visit her sister and cousin in Canada. My wife is a US Greencard holder, and her daughter is a US Citizen. Is my wife required to get a Canadian Vistitor Visa to enter/exit with her US Greencard and Chinese Passport? My daughter is a US Citizen, so I guess her US passport is all that is required ....don't need Canadian Visa? I have been reading the Canadian Embassy website and various forums on people giving advice, it's confusion. Also, her sister is on a "6 months visitor visa" from China staying with her daughter in Canada. She received her visa by requesting that she visit her daughter for college graduation, can she stay in Canada and ask for another 6 months extension on her visa, or does she have to go back to China and re-apply there to go back to Canada on another trip. What are the odds that she will be refused to enter Canada again to be with her daughter? Thankyou, Chris
  3. Thanks for all the information.....Candle has been an indespensible source for immigration issues through the long and winding road in life. If there are any accountants that do taxes, I would like to hear from them. Everybodys help has been great Thanks Believer2
  4. My wife's mother passed away in China back in 2005. My wife's sister closed-out the the mother's savings account in China and the bank gave her $8000.00 in cash that was divided up between my wife and step-daughter to bring back home on the airplane to the USA. The grandmother was saving this money all her life for college for her gran-daughter. Also,my wife closed out her savings at the bank and any money that was left at her home.....not much. I know the legal limit is 10k to be declared at Customs POE in the USA. What are the rules for this....am I right. Also, since the money was made in China, do we have to claim this money on our US taxes ?? I am not sure if my wife and step-daughter filled out the declaration form properly?? We are trying to buy a house this year and would like to use this money to add to our savings here to make a small down-payment on the house. What are some peoples' experinece with closing-out savings accounts in China for deciesed family members?
