  1. Not true. You must be going to a 3rd party website like freecreditreport.com. you can go directly to the govts website that links to the 3 reporting sites or you go directly to their web sites. Actually, I think what Robert is referring to is going through https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp and selecting the credit bureaus for the reports. But once he has been redirected to a particular credit bureau, that bureau request that you set up a login name and password with them so that you can go back in later and view the free credit report and presumably sell you something along the way. I think this is an optional step for some and mandatory in others as Robert said. I've noticed it myself. But it's only a 1 time thing, unless you loose that login info. By the way. All 3 will try to sell you a credit score when you access the freebie report, purchasing the credit score is optional.
  2. well first im coming back dec 27th, then 2 months after me Yihan will come, I just bought a new house and there is nothing inside it(literally nothing ) so i gotta get set up! Congrats. Don't worry, things will accumulate to the point that you will need to rent storage to stash your things in due time. ;-)
  3. The broken link is actually, the Medical Examination Forms (DS-2054,DS-3030, DS3025, DS-3026) bullet item under the K-1/K-2 Appointment Packet (¡°Packet 4¡±) section of http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/fo...and_packets.htm Why wouldn't this form be needed? By the way, the source you quoted is for the USCIS, not State Department. Civil surgeon forms are for adjustment of status, right? I am just getting ready for the interview. The I-693 is a USCIS form for the medical exam You have successfully answered the question of why we shouldn't bother to help someone who doesn't bother to post their information. Congratulations Well my original post was to validate if the file was corrupted. When you followed up with a link for the I-693, I followed up with a better detail of exactly where I found this broken link and what for. What more info did I *not* post? By the way, I still don't see the link between the I-693 and the medical forms (DS-2054,DS-3030, DS3025, DS-3026). Is the I-693 a subset of the others?
  4. By the way, the source you quoted is for the USCIS, not State Department. Civil surgeon forms are for adjustment of status, right? I am just getting ready for the interview. I can confirm that the file is corrupt. The forms are needed but will be supplied by the hospital performing the medical exam. I could email you the form file I downloaded earlier in the year, if you like. There is really nothing you can fill out at this stage. Thanks. No need to send me the file. I was just looking ahead. I'll wait for the stuff to arrive in snail mail.
  5. What are they examining that takes 2 sessions when it's only 1 session in GUZ? And if you have health care insurance for your SO, wouldn't the tab for incidentals like xrays, diagnostics and vaccines be picked up by them? Of course you are still liable for the dr. exam. Wonder if you can get your insurance to pick up some of that too? In any case, I am not condoning these doctor's behaviors, I think they should behave or loose their CS designation. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, just look at what's happening at GUZ. I am sure if enough people complain to the right people, things will improve. Good info Dan.
  6. Because it is optional, it is a tool to show that the prospective immigrant will have support and wont become a ward of the state. (Page 10) http://travel.state.gov/pdf/I-864GenInfo-FAQ-Final.pdf It wasn't listed as optional on the checklist for P3 however.
  7. Provided that your wife has a SS#, you can start with opening a bank account. Most banks will run a credit check when you do that and it will start the balls rolling with the credit bureaus, i.e., if she didn't have a record, she will. Then do things that others have said, like adding her to your credit card. Although I think that this trick is getting old because it's a trick people with very bad credit used to do to get their credit scores up, so your mileage will vary, but it couldn't hurt. Add your wife's name and SS# to things like utilities if they report to and check on credit. Take out a small loan at a bank and have her repay it, though you might need to co-sign the loan since she has no credit. The point is to build the credit up slowly and patiently. Also, I wouldn't constantly apply to everything in sight because every credit check that a potential creditor runs is a ding on your credit score and it will make you look very desperate in the eyes of creditors.
  8. The law is that you are allowed to look at your credit history once a year for free. It will not tell you the score but you can look at everything else from the 3 big credit reporting companies. That's true. https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp One per credit agency every 12 months. <-- Note not annual, some (transunion I think) actually track it down to the last minute and won't give you a freebie until you passed 12 months. The law also allows you to receive a free report if you are denied credit, employment, etc., provided that the info in the credit report contributed to the denial. Also, if you read their faq. "In addition to consumers who are eligible for a free credit report through the Annual Credit Report Request Service; consumers in some states are eligible for a free credit report under state law. The following states have laws that make free credit reports available to consumers: Colorado, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Vermont."
  9. Sorry to hear about your situation. How about giving them a call to see what the deal is? The NVC offered me the GUZ's number a couple of months ago, I didn't need it, so if you want to give it a try, here it is. 011-86-208-121-8000 Let me know if it works.
  10. Now this is interesting. In the K-1/K-2 Appointment Packet (¡°Packet 4¡±) section of http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/fo...and_packets.htm Inside the Letter to K1/K2 Applicants. http://photos.state.gov/libraries/guangzho...nt-Aug%2009.pdf There is this gem. "Evidence of support. Although optional, we recommend you submit form I-134, and a copy of the petitioner¡¯s most recent tax return, and proof of current employment." I'll be submitting my "optional" I-134 still, but, why would they phrase it that way?

  12. This file seems to be broken. Can someone else validate? http://photos.state.gov/libraries/guangzho...orms_202009.pdf
  13. Correct, attach any W2's and 1099's that are in your name showing your income. This is not specific to Robert's dual income issue. Do you need W2s in general if you are already providing the tax transcripts? Yes, it is. No, you don NOT need the W-2's if you are submitting single-payer tax transcripts. If they want to separate your income from another (joint) taxpayer's, they may ask to see the W-2.s Thanks for the info. By the way, I should have phrased my original question better, I didn't mean that this didn't apply to Robert, but I guess you figured out what I meant.
  14. Twice in a single day? :-) Are you sure you want to be in GUZ for the interview? Stay away from the caffeinated drinks while you are there.

  16. For the most part, I think you are right. But every now and then you see stuff like this. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/8400222.stm
  17. I've noticed a lot of K1's submitted in the last couple of months getting approved by USCIS and NVC within a matter of weeks. So much for their orderly "first in first out" processing. I wonder if this flood of newly approved cases will actually skew existing interview timelines for GUZ? Of course, the holidays doesn't help either.
  18. Thanks to all for the info. It's actually going to be cheaper for us to do it in the US since it's all covered under the health plan once we get hitched. Also, I tend to be leery of getting medical treatments in China unless it's absolutely necessary. But we'll see...
  19. So I found this on the embassy website: http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/fo...and_packets.htm Details of vaccination instructions below. Do they expect the beneficiary to get all of these? DT/DTP/DTaP, Td, Polio (OPV/IPV), Measles (or MR or MMR), Mumps (or MMR), Rubella (or MR or MMR), Rotavirus, Hib (Haemophilus Influenzae Type B ), Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Meningococcal, Varicella, Pneumococcal, Influenza. I can see some of them being necessary, but shots like hep a and b are usually recommended for healthcare workers. And some (like hep a and B ) require multi course shots (with schedule spanning months) for full efficacy. Do they expect the courses to be completed before entry to the US? Nothing helpful in the instructions as expected. Seems like they are missing H1N1. ;-) Details of vaccination instructions. INSTRUCTIONS AND PROCEDURAL GUIDANCE Panel physicians who conduct medical examinations on behalf of immigrant visa applicants are required to verify that immigrant visa applicants have met the new vaccination requirement, or that it is medically inappropriate for the visa applicant to receive one or more of the listed vaccinations: DT/DTP/DTaP, Td, Polio (OPV/IPV), Measles (or MR or MMR), Mumps (or MMR), Rubella (or MR or MMR), Rotavirus, Hib (Haemophilus Influenzae Type B ), Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Meningococcal, Varicella, Pneumococcal, Influenza. Applicants for immigrant visas at the U.S. Consulate Guangzhou must obtain an international vaccination record from one of the PRC Quarantine Bureau offices listed below. If you have already received some or all of the required vaccinations, you should bring your previous vaccination records to the Quarantine Bureau for verification and transfer to your international vaccination record. Physicians at the Quarantine Bureau offices can determine which of the listed vaccinations are medically appropriate for you, given your age, medical history, and current medical condition. Only vaccinations verified or administered at the authorized Quarantine Bureau offices will be accepted by the Consulate. {edit} NOTE B ) = you need to place a space between "b" and ")" if you don't want
  20. Yes they do and You will probably find out in 2-4 weeks. My fiance mailed her package 3 back Nov 12 and found out interview date today from DOS . We were surprised, we got a December interview , 3 more weeks till interview 3 weeks to go and you haven't received P4 yet? Yikes!
  21. I'm assuming that this falls under any supporting documents that accompany the affidavit of support - previous tax returns. Yes, the instructions doesn't mention you can't alter the document copies, but I always am hesitant when dealing with the feds because I've been burned by them before. Then can be nit pickers if they want to be. Even if they don't mention that's something is not allowed does not necessarily translate to tacit approval. A lot of it depends on how the enforcer of the rules interprets them. Good to know that it worked out for you. It's probably a good idea because the less you expose to the outside world, the less you can be victimized. It wouldn't surprise me if the embassy doesn't have good record disposal procedures after hearing how IRS "takes care" of us. BTW, I thought they preferred tax transcripts over a copy of the tax form? If doing copies are okay, then it will make my life easier because I am still waiting to get my copies from the IRS! Hope it arrives on schedule this time around. Did you need W2's to back up your tax copies or were the tax forms enough?
  22. You mean the "official" irs ones? BTW, just curious, why bother with this since they already have you and your co-sponser's SSN anyway? And if they did have a problem with the altered paperwork, wouldn't it cause more delays?
  23. By the way, if you need a chinese visa to enter the mainland, most of these travel agencies can turn it around for you too (at least the ones by me do.) They only surcharge you $10 for the privilege, although the turn around time is about 2 weeks. It beats doing it yourself, or giving some visa outfits a big payday.
  24. Just playing devil's advocate here. What will be the reason that you give to the consulate, if you were asked? If you say something to the effect of "trying to save money", wouldn't that be a red flag to them that you may be having financial issues? As the interview is a very important part of the process, since everything you've worked so hard for literally boils down to that moment, my advice is not to mess around with it. By the way, do you live near any chinatown or places with chinese travel agencies? I've found those to have the best prices. Typically, these agencies have arrangements to block out large number of seats on most flights to HK or major cities in China. I've never seen any website match their prices. Alternatively, you can google for chinese travel agencies in NY,NY or SF,CA, etc. and call them for a quote. You should be able to pay for everything over the phone with a credit card, since most of them issue etickets anyway. If you have enough vacation, leave earlier. I believe the prices are still very reasonable during early December. Call and check it out.
