  1. She was reluctant to come back to work, considering of quitting, but I told her to hang on a couple of weeks, until the truth is, or semi out. Quitting too soon will leave them the space to gossip, and ending up the real" Thief' unattended. She cant have a one on one meeting with the HR, so I want to write a paper work presenting what has happened so she can mail it to the HR office. It is very humiliating and insulting for her to be treated this way, though, that is why she wants to sue the company, but I think there is not enough evidence, because the company didnt say directly she stole the money, they just said it was a verbal warning for missing $140.
  2. She works at one of the Chain companies, I think it is called queck, but not so sure, a weird name. She didnt sign the paper verbal warning. My suspect is why the managerment havent checked the camera for a month, and they said they believed nobody stole the money. I am thinking they might try to make a scape goat out of her. But not sure, just guessing. What should she tell the HR if she demands a meeting with them? Tha
  3. Cashier jobs are relatively easy to get, especially with experience. If you were fired from your job, no job is easy to get. Turn in 2 weeks notice, and go get another job. That keeps them from firing her (because she has already quit), thus preserving her work record, and gets her out of a situation where they are not treating her fairly. If need be find another job first, but don't wait too long, because if she signs that paper admitting guilt, then she can easily be terminated. I even had a friend write a rebuttal saying they are signing the paper because it is required to keep their job, but not admitting guilt. Didn't matter they used it to fire her anyway. First of all, thanks for the reply. I might miss your point, and I think the best thing for her to do is wait until they check the camera and hopefully something will come out. Though it is easy to find another job like this, it makes her look guilty if she quits now, then people will say: Yes, she took the money." But it is only my advice.
  4. Hi, everybody, havent been here for a while. How is everybody? I want to ask you a favour. My friend doesnt speak a lot English, and she works in a convenience store as a cashier. It is all like that: Her till was $140 short, which happened before, and after a couple of weeks, the money would come back. But not this time, after a month of reconciliation, the manager finally told her that the money is gone. Yesterday, the manager pulled her into the office and wanted her to sige a paper work of warning. She asked the manager Warning of what because she didnt take the money.' The manager said that we didnt think you took the money, but it is just a process, and you know any money less than that could end up being fired, but we didnt fire you, because you are a good employee....She couldnt help crying after hearing that, because she felt insulted,as an loyal employee. She later told me that a lot of people that day shared the same till with her, including some of the management. It shouldnt have happened if it was not due to the bad management. She demanded the manager check all the video inside the store and she wanted to know what happened to that $140 and managered said they would give her an answer. She told me the store yesterday and she felt so irritated and mad and wanted to take legal action again the company. But she doesnt know much such law about here, neither do I. So, if anyone has some advice, please help her out. God bless. Thanks a lot.
  5. How's the exchange rates for Fidelity? Why do you use " Zhang Zi Yi"? Are you her?
  6. Congratulations Bob and Jin for the job offer. Beijing University is one of the two top norch universities in China everyone wants to go to. Some of my students are there, maybe you will teach them. What subject matter do you teach? How about Jin?
  7. Because "fish" pronuncing as Yu in Chinese is a polysemant, which could mean "fish" and "extra". Here in Chinese New Year Culture, we take the meaning of the latter. So it is like you will have extra cash, extra good luck....
  8. When talking about racism, I think only the minorities have the final say whether there is or not. I read from Newspaper about the opportunities of percentage of employment among different races who have the same type of college degree and the result is stunning: 80% whites, 40% blacks, 30% Latinos, and only 20% of Asians. And what does that tell you? But we cant blame American, American government or anybody for the existing racism. Because I dont think there will ever be a solution to racism unless taking the following measures: Put all the whites in one country, blacks in one country, Asians in another...My point is when there is only one race in one country, then racism will disappear automatically. But theoritically, that is impossible. So why bother begin this topic about racism? It is there and will always be there. I think for our minorities, the right attitude is take it and dont think too much about it. Or like the other guys said before: If you dont like it, go back to your own country.
  9. And I have something else to add to my post. In Chinese culture, we think a mild degree of jealousy is healthy in keeping a sound relationship. If love is gone, there will be no jealousy at all. Shouldnt that be true universally?
  10. That is the right attitude, and the" true attitude" should be : go find her own bf or husband to fix her house B)
  11. I think a lot contributes to this topic. First, before I illustrate this to the Chinese culture, I am thinking by myself this question: Or is it true Chinese dont take jealous as well as Americans? Do you feel jealous if your wife visits, or talks to her ex all the time? For the chinese, this problem is more of a Culture thing than that of jealousy. It is almost a taboo in China if husband and wife get divorced and still visit or talk to each other. Normally, when the couple get divorced, the tie is unknotted... most of whom will act as strangers_dont want to see the other party or talk any more...there are few that stay friends. Even though, they keep a distance from each other.. The psychological explanation is : marriage is built up on love. Though they divorce each other, love will not disappear in one day ...just as the saying goes: yi ye fu qi bai ri en. Under circumstances below that a new Chinese wife might want to get along with your ex_wife: 1. She is predominant in age, appearance, material.. 2.She is a really open woman, a saint.
  12. Thanks Randy, so I will get credits from my husband's working?
  13. Yes, however if they retire and return to the home country the benefit is only 1/2, if a US Citizen it will be full benefit. I believe if retire in the USA it will be full benefit. A requirement is you have to work and be credited with 40 quarters of work. Thanks a lot for the information. That is about what I heard of before, but how many years of work will build up 40 credits?
  14. I think somebody told me about that before, but I am not so sure. Do we,Chinese working in America only holding green cards not citizenship, get social security?
  15. Maybe the owner of your company is Spanish.
  16. I never went to an expo in other countries except China, unless the car shows are considered to be one, then New York.
  17. I went to 2002 Dalian world exposition. It was fabulous, all kinds of manufacturing, natural, farming products also products from all over the world, you name it, barring they were all genuine... The best part of it to me, a shopholic? If you happen to visit it by the time it is closing, dont feel surprised if you find a lot of stuff priced at 50-90 percent off. My husband and I both cant wait until 2010 Shanghai Expo opens .Act now, if you dont want to miss such a good chance B) !
  18. I used to have a 50_pound note with the corner missing after I came back from Britain without noticing,of course, not being aware of ,that prior to the trip. I talked to the bank for half an hour without any sign of them taking it. So I had to call the homestay, asking them to do me a favor by switching that with a newer one... Then I decided it was too much trouble. So I took it to America and luckily got it exchanged in the bank here. B) But I think the banks in the cities, like Beijing, Shanghai ....will deal with that kind of money.
  19. Hi Scott, Concerning the part that you will go visit China, and your wife doesnt have a valid greencard, unluckily you and your wife have to go to the nearest immigration office with all the NOA you have had in your hands about her removing of conditional, asking for a stamp on her passport( I think it is called I-551). Normally she will get a three months to six month extension because her permenant green card is pending. good luck
  20. I went back to visit family this summer. While I was there, my friends all asked me about the economy situation of America. They told me that China's economy is affected by the recession of America too. But what makes it hard to believe is the house price. It is soaring to the sky. I passed by couple of construction areas where they all have the big commericals of : 20,000/sq, on top of that, a lot of agents will hold back their houses, believing the price will go up soon..... Though with the high price, most people in Beijing have their own house. Dont forget, Beijing is the one of the top four most expensive cities in the world with people making the highest salaries. A lot of my colleagues have at least two or three houses, comparing to them, I have fallen much behind.
