  1. I recently moved from San Francisco where Cantonese was spoken everywhere and you hardly here any Mandarian spoken. In LA, I found that there are very few Cantonese speakers. I listen to the people walking by and the people that work in the restaurant and they speak mostly Mandarian. I think most of them are from Taiwan. Whereas most of the Chinese they settled in New York and San Francisco earlier came from the GuongDong,Guang Xi, and Hong Kong area where Cantonese is widely used.
  2. What I do is I tell them I'm going to the bathroom, but instead I ask the staff to tally up the bill and pay there.
  3. Wow, I didn't know it was that bad. You always hear about the chinese men there not only have a wife, but they have 2 or 3 girlfriends on the side. Now they won't even have a wife! http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/6346931.stm Wifeless future for China's men By James Reynolds BBC News, Beijing China's future problems are easy to spot. You can see them in the front row of the Hui Kang kindergarten class in the city of Huizhou. Four boys sit next to a girl. Further back, a girl in pigtails and a pink jumper stands out amid a group of boys. In recent years, the kindergarten has been getting more and more boys. Since the late 1970s Chinese couples have been allowed just one child - and most parents here prefer to have a son. "It's having a real effect," said Ms Zheng, the school's head teacher. "One of our classes has 39 boys and just eight girls. It's a serious problem. When there are more boys than girls, the girls copy the boys and they become more aggressive," she said. At break time, the girls need to be pretty good at defending themselves. One girl beats off four boys who try to have a look at what she was drawing. China is worried about what may happen in 20 years or so when these kids grow up and start trying to settle down. An official estimate says that, by 2020, there may be 30 million men of marriageable age who will not be able to find a wife. The gender imbalance has various causes. Abortions on female foetuses are believed to be widespread as couples, particularly in rural areas, hope for a son who will look after them in their old age. There is also suspected under-reporting of female births. 'No-one to impress' On China's tropical island of Hainan, you get an idea of the problems the country might face in a bachelor-heavy future. In a small village, made up of shacks and pig pens, there are already too many men, and not enough women. Liu Yaxiao introduces his three brothers - all in their 30s, all unmarried. They sit along the edge of a bed, looking a bit sheepish and forlorn. They were born before the one child policy began - but they still cannot find anyone to marry. All the single women left their village long ago in search of work. At home they have to cook for themselves. That is embarrassing in a country where women are expected to make the food. Liu Yading is one of the brothers. He has a motorbike and leather jacket and does his best to look fairly cool. But there is no one for him to impress. "There are more than a hundred men aged between 18 to 40 who are unmarried in our village," he says. "Nearby villages are all like us. How can we get married? I don't know what to do or where to start finding a wife. I'm stuck - unless God can help me." The brothers eat lunch by themselves. Outside the village shop, men and teenagers hang about. They keep an eye on the main road - in case any eligible women wander by. But the road is empty. In years to come, for the single men of China, things will only get worse.
  4. Chinese class system goes: 1.) Chinese American 2.) Hong Kong 3.) Taiwan 4.) The big cities, Shanghai 5.) Rural area 6.) All the hundreds of other minorities group in china. Also, the chinese american women look down on you if you go to China to find a woman. They think you're just looking for a sex and household slave. I'm chinese american and the chinese woman(and the white woman) think I'm crazy going to China to marry when there are so many here! Of course, they fail to mention that because I don't have a a MBA and make over $100k, I'm not marriage material.
  5. I just got my doctor bill for hepatitis A & B vaccine shot and it came to $825!!!! $620 for the doctor visit and $205 for the shots. I ended up having to pay $125 even with insurance($2,500 deductible). How do they get away with this stuff???
  6. In and of itself, a 20ish year age difference is not a problem. It generally becomes one of several factors considered when there are other concerns. The VO's sometimes seem to focus on single factors but in reality they generally look at the totality of the case. For instance when the VO sees pictures of a beautiful young woman, recently divorced now wanting to marry a fat, ugly old USC (like me) they might start thinking about visa fraud, particularly if the USC is relatively poor, visited only once and he's wearing the same clothes in all the pictures. That's just one example. What makes you ask? Oh no, that means I have to buy new clothes for my next trip!
  7. Tony, does your wife work? Or is she a stay-at-home mom? That is pretty brazen of her to send money without even discussing it with you. She does not work. I wished that she had talked to me first. Well, I have now taken over the bank accounts and will never trust her again with money issues. We had this problem before when dating. She charged on my credit card a gucci watch and a few prada bags without tellling me and we discussed it and I thought that was the end of it. When I was buying the apartment, she suggested we put it in her sister's name (who by the way borrowed from me over a year ago and did not pay back). I put it in my own sister's name and she has been bitching about it. She transferred my car to her name in the states and gave it to her dad without my consent also. I did not mind that as I am not going to ship it or drive it anyway. Well, it does not bode well for our marriage but I have to stick to it cause I want my daughter to grow up in a loving and healthy family. \\ Wow, wow, wow. I would never put up with this. This isn't a one time thing she did to you. That's just plain stealing when you do it more than once. Who knows what she will do next, forge your name and deed the house to herself?
  8. Better to find out now than latter. She's already made her decision.
  9. I have used it and I agree with the other, you should get some other learning material to go with it. Sometime, I couldn't understand if I was saying "under" or "over" and there's no guide so I had to look it up on the web to figure out what I was saying.
