  1. To Hank and others concerned:

Below is a portion of the email I just received from John Chen, President of GMUCA.

He also attached an application for passport renewal (in Chinese) and requirements such as cashier check amount, photos, etc., again in Chinese.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Chinese Embassy has confirmed that they will send an official to come to Memphis on Feb. 5th to work on Passport renewal, living certificate, and Travel Permits for children (if either parent has received a Green Card or a U.S. Citizen, then their children can not apply for Travel Permit). Please read the attached instructions and prepare the necessary material/photo (Must be recent pictures without any part of face/eyebrow/ear being blocked) to make your visit as smooth and as short as possible. There will be a number system that will give out waiting number on first come and first serve basis.

    Date: Feb. 5th, Saturday.

    Time: 3:00pm to 7:00pm

Location: University of Memphis Engineering Building Lobby and Auditorium.

    3795 Central Avenue

    Memphis, TN 38152

Please help spread this news as much as possible so more people can be informed about this visit. We would like to see as many Chinese in Memphis and surrounding cities be benefit as possible. Though the Chinese Embassy official did emphasize that they can only work for the people who actually live in the territory states that are covered by the Chinese Embassy. The people from state of AR, AL, MS and etc. that are covered by Houston consulate, please do NOT make the trip because your request will NOT be processed!!!! I don¡¯t want anyone to waste their time and gas to drive to Memphis and get disappointed.

  2. Hank,

    Thanks so much.

I also contacted John this afternoon on his cell number provided to me by a member at GMUCA. Apparently we are taking the same path.

He was just getting all the details himself, but I was informed by him that it will be at the University of Memphis on Saturday, February 5th at 3pm.

He added my email address to his list as he was preparing at the time to email all members of GMUCA the details and requirements for the passport renewal next weekend.

As I understand it, you must meet with the embassy staff in person to start the process of passport renewal. Once done and fees paid, the new passport will be mailed to us within two to three months as Dan stated also.

I may stand corrected in the near future on all that I have just posted. If so, stay tuned. Once I receive the email from GMUCA I will forward it to you also Hank.

  3. Thanks for any help in advance.

As I am aware that it is possible to renew a Chinese passport at the consulate offices throughout the U.S., I am also aware that they travel from state to state and it is possible to get it renewed at a temporary location.

My wife has been watching for the dates and locations on the embassy's web-site and they are now within reach of our city.

Today they are in Lexington, Ky. and next weekend they are in Memphis, TN.

I am unable to translate what she has found on the embassy's site.

Here is the link where she found this info:

    http://www.china-emb...ywzn/lsyw/gzrz/

You can see the first listings with the numbers on the first line showing 2 and 20, second line 2 and 13 and so forth. We are interested in the one reading 2 and 6 which is in Memphis as we are in Nashville.

Can someone help get this translated or get me to the right site where I am able to read the same in English?

I will need to be able to learn of the forms and money order amounts, etc. for this process to be completed.

If I have placed this in the wrong forum, I am hoping a mod can get it relocated properly.

    Thanks so much,

    Clayton & Wen-Li

  4. Hello to all...once again.

Sorry to be away (occasional lurking only) for some time, but I am in need of help finding cheaper airfare to Nanning from LAX as my searches have produced only shocking results.

I have exhausted some of the links provided in the pinned post above and have found for the two of us to travel from Nashville via LAX to GUZ to Nanning is costing about $3g's. A bit more than I am seeking to spend.

If we don't find cheaper fare, we will need to postpone our travels for a while.

We wish to travel the first week of Sept. and return in two weeks.

I know that many of you track pricing to Nanning and hoping you all know something that I may be missing.

Here are the flights from LAX-GUZ-NNG that I need help with pricing:

China Southern CZ328 LAX-GUZ Depart LAX on Sept. 4

China Southern CZ3331 GUZ-NNG Depart NNG on Sept. 18

    Thanks,

    Clayton & Wen-Li

  5. Does anyone know if we can ship our huge package of proof directly to their address (Vermont - 75. Lower Weldon Street) address or do we have to ship it to their P.O. Box? Knowing this in advance will help us to decide as to which Carrier to use (FedX, UPS, USPS)

We want to ship it all out by Tuesday the 2nd, Overnight.

    Thanks

Although I quickly skimmed the directions for the I-751, I did not find the same statement as I did on some of the other forms used in the K-1 process that reads to send it USPS. From one government agency to another.

If you send it USPS without the p.o. box number, I would assume it would wind up in that box anyway. You will find it cheapest to send USPS, just get a tracking number as your package is valuable. It will get where it's going, no worries.

    Clayton

  6. USCIS has now offically changed their policy on which service centers process the I-751. Now, you send the form directly to Vermont or California.

    http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...0004718190aRCRD

They will reject (not transfer) forms sent to the wrong center starting 9-24, so be careful.

    Michael,

Thanks, but like myself on many days...a day late and a dollar short!

I think jim revealed the same in his earlier post:

  7. dale,

Apparently and lucky for us, Tennessee is a very lenient state when it comes to issuing state ID's.

Within the first couple of weeks of my wife's arrival we secured a state ID with her passport and I-94 in the name of Li Wen. It was good for one year.

When we were married we secured an updated ID with her now married name Li Wen Taylor, which expired on the same date as the first ID issued.

Finally, when her green card arrived in her chosen name, Wen-Li Taylor we secured one in this name which expires in five years.

No questions, no hassles, no waiting.

  8.

It may not be any big deal for some to just dismiss one country not playing by the same rules as every other country. But for all the athletes who've spent countless hours training and missing out on normal childhoods so they could be Olympic caliber athletes, I'll bet it's a pretty big deal. Knowing that you did it the right way while others may have been rewarded for doing the opposite.

In order to not offend a sole, with a minor edit to your above quote, I must say...

    Well put Dave!

    Thanks.

  9. Jay,

I have been following your posts and now it is time for me to say...

:D :tomato: :mobrun: CONGRATULATIONS!!! :bangin: :bangin:

Your experience will give hope to all that may follow in similar footsteps. We wish you the best! Safe travels.

It is my understanding that 9 is not a good number in Chinese. So you may want to pick another date.

    Jing,

I feel quite certain your comment of the number nine not being a good number is not correct. Nine is clearly one of China's lucky numbers along with the number eight being the luckiest. See below.

We plan to return to China to get our red books on 09/09/09 and perhaps at 09:09 AM!!!

    Clayton

    Nine

The number 9, being the greatest of single-digit numbers, was historically associated with the Emperor of China; the Emperor's robes often had nine dragons, and Chinese mythology held that the dragon has nine children.

Moreover, the number 9 (jiu) sounds like the word for "longlasting" (¾Ã pinyin ji¨³), and as such is often used in weddings.

Nine means longevity and eternality. Nine roses signifies everlasting love.

  10. If DOS tells you that GUZ sent out P3, then fill out form OF-169, and DS-230 Part 1 and mail it back.

I curious, has anyone tried mailing back the packet 3 BEFORE the consulate has mailed the packet 3 out? Would the consulate accept it early and start processing the packet 4?

    Steve,

Yes and no. Yes we sent them early, but no we did not send them until I knew they had been sent.

Downloaded forms filled out and ready to send.

Called daily once the time frame was nearing until I was told our P3 was sent out. (Perhaps sitting in a box at GUZ, waiting to be sent to EMS, which could have saved a week or two).

Sent the completed P3 paperwork overnight via EMS. See our timeline.

Actual P3 paperwork sent from GUZ arrived at SO's home about 1.5 weeks after GUZ stated they were sent to us.

When I went to ACH the person I spoke with was reviewing our case on the computer and laughed when he noticed the "fast" turn around on the P3 paperwork.

No problems. No issues and received the "PINK".

    Clayton

  11. I thought 'loaded' means that GUZ has an electronic version of the file, sent electronically from NVC.

When it's just 'loaded' - the physical file hasn't made it to GUZ yet, not removed from the box, not yet processed in the physical file review at GUZ.

Hang in there, be patient, at least they're not doing some nasty administrative processing.

Cut and pasted below is a response from Dan (dnoblett) to a thread I posted some time back:

Terminology used by DOS personnel, in reference to a case:

LOADED = NVC has sent an electronic copy of the petition to GUZ, but hardcopy petition information has NOT been entered by GUZ.

OPEN = This does not occur until AFTER GUZ signs by STAMP for the DHL package sent by the NVC. Within days to a few weeks after that, GUZ will enter information into the computer and the case is then considered to be "Open." The P3 is then mailed.

IN QUE = Namecheck, if any, and other paperwork is clear. Indicates that an interview date has been set. This is the final stage at GUZ before the interview.

Missingyou...CONGRATS!!!...now it's time to fill out the forms and get them back to GUZ...ASAP!!! Everyday counts.

  12. Steve and Aiwen,

:cheering: :cheering: :cheering: MUCH CONGRATS!!! :cheering: :cheering: :cheering:

It's a good feeling, although I know the wait was much more pleasurable being together during this process!

We will make that trip to Atlanta one of these days in the near future. Looking forward to joining up with you both when we do.
