  1. Like i said, dont give 'em a chance in hell to refuse ya! For the most part, you only get one real shot at the visa. Might as well do your best, or be prepared for the VO to roll the dice. Congrats
  2. 1 hour and 30 minutes her plane should land, I got a call form the airport in Minniapolis and somebody was helping her get to her plane.
  3. Hi My wife is big into Chinese tradition and I will pick her up at the airport on Friday afternoon. I wanted to have our house ready for her so here is what I was thinking if I forgot anything please fill me in A dozen roses on the table at home. I cannot bring them to the airport the sheer cold will kill them Candles not sure what scent to get I don't know what she likes if anybody has any suggestions. I know everybody is different however what I don't want to get something she might not like. Rose pedals for the bed. Should I carry her over the threashold like you do when your first married? Also should I bring her in threw the front door or the door in the garage? and of course the house will be very clean. any other suggestions woudl be very helpful. Thanks
  4. It gets over 100 here in the summer for a few days. Last year I dont think we hit a 100 though. In Vietnam I don't think it ever gets to 100 good thing I have central air.
  5. I took her to the ICE Palace in a park in Vietnam where it was made of ice and cold she didn't even complain. I wasnt' wearing a coat and her coat was unzipped. I told her it was even colder than this in North Dakota. She knows I don't want to move because my family is here and she wants to be close to my family also. My house is warm so she will have a chance to get acclimated to the cold weather. I have a decent goverment job now and if we move there is a chance I will not be able to find work in another city. Also the house is only half paid for and I don't think I could sell it even thought the recesion still has not hit here.
  6. Yes Damn COLD. http://www.wunderground.com/history/airpor...hlyHistory.html Lowest -15 for this month overall average 8 degrees. Last month it hit -33F there. http://weathersticker.wunderground.com/weathersticker/bigwx_cond/language/www/US/ND/Bismarck.gif I'm going to get a portable heater for next year so she can take it room to room. I think I would go broke if I had to keep my house 80 degrees' all year long.
  7. Yeah she has lived her whole life in Vietnam and one day she was complaining to me about how cold it ws in the movie theater. I think it got down to 70 degrees and I hand't noticed it myself. I told her about the cold here and she is fine with it. I told her my house is warm and we have to stay where I have a good job and she is ok with that. She has a shrine in her house to the GODS and to her parents and she prays everyday and sets food by them until the food goes rotten. I think she wants to pay respect to my mother or she fears my mother will haunt her. I will start watching ghost hunters with her I think she will love that show.
  8. Thanks for the responses I feel better knowing that it is not that uncommon. I live in Bismarck it is very cold and we have no market but 200 miles away in Fargo there is a small shop that has some stuff. The next closest place is Minnapolis about 400 miles away. I think we will be ordering food online if I can find a good website. My friend who introduced us lives here and he is also Chinese and so is his girlfriend. I don't mind hanging around him a little but not to much. She does bring me alot of food and worrys greatly if I will like her cooking when she comes here. I have been spendind alot of time and money getting everything ready here. When I call her she is very busy going out to eat with family and friends. Freinds that she hasn't talked to in years have come out of the wood work and took her out to eat or she took them out to eat. The other day I told her about some stuff I purchased to make her life her more enjoyable and she was very moved by it. She asks me if my house has ghosts. I told her there was no such thing but I don't think she believe's me. The day after she gets here she wants to visit my mothers grave. I told her we could go in May for memorial day but she insisted on doing it the day after she gets here. I guess I have alot to learn. To bad there is no Chinese wife for dummies book. Thanks again.
  9. She is in Ho Chi Minh but they celebrate CNY and she considers herself Chinese. I was planning on flying back with her but there was a delay in her getting the visa by a week so since I coudln't get my stay exteneded that long I had to come back alone. I cannot afford to go over now until I save some money. I overspent this last year to bring her here. I told her it might be 5 years but realisticaly we might be able to do it in 3 years. I just wanted her to be aware of the worst case scenerio.
  10. My wife picked up her visa back on January 7th but she is not coming here until February 19th. I told her she could stay for Chinese New Year since her brother from New York was going to be visiting durning that time. I was hoping she would say no and come over in January but she decided to stay. I see others that have gotten there visa since my wife picked her's up and they are aleady here. I told her nobody where I live celebrates Chinese New Year and that it might be 5 years before she goes back again. I miss her alot but she doesn't seem to miss me as much. We were last together December 29th 2009. She doesn't get as excited or emotional as I see others do but maybe that is because she is older than most that immigrate. I can tell she has a genuine love for me I am the first man in her life so she has never had heart break except for when I upset her . I know her love will grow stronger for me in time but when we were together in her country I could see the love for her family and friends was very strong and it will be hard to compete with. I am a little worried she will miss them so much she will decide she likes it better back there.
  11. Last time I went to Ho Chi Minh I took Korean air. They have better food than united but I don't like airline food but I heard they offer 2 choices an American and a Korean dish. Take the Korean dish. Your allowed 2 check in bags each can be 20 kilo's I don't remember the length. Each seat has its own screen where you can watch whatever movie or tv show you want or play games or listen to music. There is even an option where you can look outside from the flight camera's. Not bad considering I hate flying.
  12. Thanks for the advice I will defenatly check them out. On a side not my wife is coming here on Feb 19th and our 1 year annaversary is Feb 28th. She told me that the 1 year annaverasry is special and I must get her something special. I already proposed dinner and a movie but she told me she wanted something that would last forever or for more than just one evening. I explained to her that American tradition that is the paper annaversary and it is the least expensive gift and told her that the 50 year present is the big one. She is worried the way I eat fried foods I wont be around when I am 94 so I think she wants to cash in now. She told me that Chinese tradition the first one is the big thing not the 50 year annaversary. Does anybody have any good suggestions??
  13. Hi my wife speaks Cantonise and she is coming here in 23 days I have noticed that the Dish network and Direct TV both have Chinese channels I was wondering what one was better? The lady at our condo assocation says it is against our bylaws to have a satalite dish however when I went to the SEC website it said it was against the law for anybody to prevent you from having a satalite dish. The 2 other options online tv the only sight I have been able to find is www.iTV.com they have 80 Chinese channels however there is alot of advertising and the download is slow so it has to stop and load every so often. They also have there advertisements or logo on the screen at all times. Netflicks is my other option. There website only lets you browse a few thing so I cannot tell if they have many streaming movies with Chinese language or subtitles. If anybody has any info about this it would be helpful. Thanks
  14. The attorney's helper told us that there is a good chance they will interview both of us and he also told us of a case where the husband said last night at her mother place and the wife awnsered 2 days ago at the hotel. The visa was returned. The day before the interview Tuesday we practiced some of the questions and we made love Monday night so that was the awnser she had memorized. But that Tuesday night before the interview we also made love in the morning. I waited at the counsulate from 7AM she comes out at 1130AM I thought she was done but she told me they were on a lunch break. When we were returning to the consulate after the lunch break she asked me do I still say Monday night was the last time we made love. I told her no forget what you memorized we made love last night you tell the trueth. A couple hours later when she came out to get me they asked me that question and they asked her that question it was shortly after that we got the visa. So knowing that played a big part in us getting the visa.
  15. I sent her the money for the ticket already but she was thinking of spending a few days of Chinese new year with her family then coming around feb 16th or 17th. I just hope the weather gets better by then today it was over 40 below with the wind chill. They asked many questions they interviewed her first then they called me in. Here is some of what I could remember and if I remember more I will post it later. asked us both but not at same time How did you meet? When was the last time you made love? What are you plans after this? when did you arrive? when do you go back? and when would she go back? What city did I stop in before I got to Vietnam? How much money did you send her? Do you have proof? Have you ever been outside of the USA? Where do you work? Do you want to have children? Do you use contraceptitves? Asked us both together How do you communicate with your wife? Tell your wife to make dinner plans and invite me. The cantonise translator then asked my wife what I said What is your husbands favorite food What does he like on his pizza They asked my wife How come your husband sent you that much money? Can you speak english? What color of shirt do I have on? Thats all I remember so far
  16. December 5th of 2008 we were denied a K1 visa it was sent back to the USCIS and then I posted my story on here asking for help. Many people suggested Marc Ellis so I retained his services. I married my fiancee and on 01/07/2010 she has the CR1 visa in her hand. The main thing is to find your red flags and address them when you submit your petition. I know many people have told me I didn't need a lawyer but this is my wife and I didn't want to take that chance. I was willing to give up my country, religion, family, friends, house, possessions, good paying job and move to Vietnam or Canada to be with my wife. You might have a red flag that you don't know about and if you don't address it properly and the consulate happens to find out about it that could result in you being denied. I knew most of my red flags but I didn't trust myself to address them properly. After the petition was mailed but before the USCIS approved of it my wife found a mistake that we made. It was a mistake that would have gotten our visa denied. I told Mr. Ellis about it and he wrote a corrected letter that we submitted to the USCIS before they approved of our petition. The day before my wife's interview Mr. Ellis wrote a 1 page letter and had me take it in during counselor hour. The day of the interview December 23rd they asked my wife a few questions then called me in and they interviewed both of us together then separate and issued the pink. They told my wife to pick up the visa on December 30th so when she came in they told her to come back on January 7th because they didn't have it ready yet. January 7th came and she picked it up. I didn't want to post anything until she had the visa in her hand and now I can breathe a sigh of relief. I have never experienced this kind of happiness before it's hard to put into words but I would like to say; Thanks to all the people on Candle for Love that have emailed me and replied to my posts and thanks for suggesting Mr. Ellis. 17. you got me a little worried now, I sent my wife over 10k it all came out of my checking account most of it came from a second job but some was transfered over to my checking from a CD that took me about 20 years to save for and I can only provide records of my savings back to about 5 years. When my mom passed away in 2006 a few months before I met Tran my dad gave me and my brothers each a check for 5k from my moms life insurance policy. He collected her SS money until he turned 62 it was a little over 3K a year so each of the last 3 years each of my brothers and me got a check for about 1250. Should I get an affidavid from my dad stating that was money he paid to us from my moms SS money and her life insurance?
  18. Thanks for the reply I see you can pay the fee online not sure if I can do the form online but I will wait for them to send it to me in the mail
  19. The USCIS approved our visa on 09/09/09 and I think from there it goes to the NVC then the consulate. I have an attorney helping my wife with her CR1 paperwork but what paperwork should I be doing and will I get something in the mail from them telling me what to do next?
  20. I also forgot to mention we have over 1k pictures but not all of just us I would say well over 500 of us.
  21. Yes I will be, God willing. I know my boss might not like it and I might even get fired but if its just for 1 day I will fly there to give her the confidence. I don't know if God will allow me or anybody to be that happy so I am not holding my breath. It has been a hard struggle I talked to the same lady at the USCIS a total of 4 times on my K1 visa she told me not to worry about anything and said as long as our relationship is real she would get her visa. I am telling myself that everyday so it is giving my some confidence. I have her on my retirement plan,401k,life,health,dental,vision. We have a joint bank account in Ho Chi Minh. I have her on my electric, gas, phone, cable, internet, and water bill. We put our picture in the local paper and in my work paper. We talk on the phone over 30 minutes every day send 5 emails a week 2 letters a month 4 or more transcipts and screen pics from talking online per week. Recipts of sending her monthly money over 300 every month. Not sure what else I can do to prove I love her but to show up and pour out my heart if she is denied.
  22. I found that link http://www.ilw.com/articles/2009,0218-seminara.shtm
  23. Hi, we got our K1 letter and it said it expired Then our CR1 was approved at the USCIS on 09/09/09 Tran thinks 09/09/09 is good luck I assume our interview should be in November or December if everything goes well and she will be here by Christmas. I heard in Ho Chi Minh you can request a Chinese translator instead of a Vietnamise translator so we are going to try that this time. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel I just don't know if we can reach it. I would be lying if said I wasnt worried about ther interview. Awhile back I think it was around Febuary somebody posted a link to an article by CO that gave some insight, I was wondering if anybody still had that link. I did some searching and was not able to find it as there have been several posts since then. Thanks for everybodys support everything is turning out better than I could have hoped.
  24. I agree get her here on the next plane out of China
