Quick question, once she has the K3 visa and we're waiting for the I-130 to process, can she leave and enter the country as much as she wants?

Thanks guys. Yeah, I would never have her overstay her tourist visa. I just figured a part of it would be completed during the 8 months that she's here... but I guess it doesn't work that way.

I've been married to my SO for over a year and a half but she couldn't move here yet due to family/work commitments. She's visited a half dozen times on tourist visas, though. She finally finished everything and was ready to move here for good and we were looking at starting the paperwork for her K visa, however, since she still had 8 months or so left on her tourist visa, I told her to just fly over and we'll just start on the next step. She arrived last week but now I'm sort of lost on what exactly that next step is. I was reading up on the "adjustment of status" but I think that's for K visas? Can anyone point me in the right direction? I hope I didn't make a mistake by having her come here... I apologize if this is a very common question, I've searched the forum a little for something similar but had no luck.

Thanks again. @2mike&jin From what I've spoken to her about the program, it sounds like it was influenced by a Russian "send students abroad to learn other cultures and bring them back to apply what they've experienced" sort of thing that existed many years ago. She's from a more rural region and it was more of a provincial program. They tried it for a few years and have since bailed on it, as it's not being done any more but it sounds like they're still serious about completing the obligation else losing your collateral. The program seems CCP influenced, since the terms were taken from a Russian program, but it was open to the general public and the "work" she is obligated to do can be with any company, as long as it's in her field of study. All of the paperwork I've seen so far indicates that she's clear and free to come here after she's worked for a few more years.

The only part I'm hazy on is should we tell the Embassy what we're planning on doing when she comes here (and prove that she's going back) when we apply for the tourist visa or should we keep the application completely "tourist" based, as far as they know?

I have a fiance in China and she went through this government program where they give her an education abroad in exchange for 5 years of service when she returns. She had to sign her parents house as collateral for the deal. She's 2 years into her service and she intends on finishing the next 3 years there. I've already flown out to visit her twice (and even live with her for 2 months) but I have work obligations here that prevent me from seeing her again for over a year. So, I want her to come here (Phoenix, AZ) for a quick 3 week vacation so we can get married then have her go back to continue her obligation and we can look at planning the next few years down the road. Now, my question: What are her chances of getting a tourist visa to visit me if we provide proof of this obligation, two way plane ticket, proof of her great job there, etc? Should we even mention that we're engaged? PS. I know I can bring her over on a K-1 visa but doing all of that paper work and have her come here for 3 weeks then go back and have to do it again later seems pretty silly. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

That's a good topic. I'm a city boy at heart and she's a city girl, so we'll definitely try to live in a loft/condo downtown at some point, so there's really no habitual culture change for her. I am very interested in how an SO growing in densely populated cities will adjust to a ranch or a large piece of land away from the city. Keep me posted.

It sounds as though she thinks you own your own home, Travis. Are you sure that she fully understands the western system of borrowing and trust deeds etc? Good luck little brother. I do have a home, hehe, in a western sense of the word (aka. Making payments until I'm 60!). I forgot about deeds, doh, that's probably what she's talking about. Thanks Dennis! You da man!

Also, my SO mentioned that I should send a copy of my "house ownership certificate". I have no idea what that is. I guess that is only necessary if you enter your house equity as an asset on the Support form, right?

how did you get your i-134 notorized?.....did you just fill it out and have a notary public notorize it? what about tax returns...statement from bank and employers etc?....do you need to present those to the notary public to get your i-134 notorized? let me know how you did it..thank you andy For the i-134, exactly. i have no idea if I am supposed to notarize the tax statements. Seems strange to do that, since they're already signed and processed a while ago. What is the notary supposed to be verifying on the tax statements?

Hey guys, I did several searches to figure out the contents that I should be sending to my SO now that we have the P3. I saw read several postings, but they had more specific questions about co-sponsors and pertaining to marriage P-3s, which may or may not be different than K-1 P-3s?. I'm wondering what, completely, does a non-cosponsor Western fiance need to send the foreign SO after the P-3 is received. Here's the list I devised based on reading some online help items, the affidavit of support instructions, having my SO email me images of her P-3 packet, etc. This is what I'm compiling to send her thus far. PLEASE let me know if I'm wrong on anything or am missing something important. - Affidavit of Support - completed and notarized - Employer Letter showing status, salary, start date and job title (company letter head, signed by employer) - Copies of last 3 tax returns (notarized? I am getting mixed info) - Bank Statement showing account open date, present balance and yearly deposit total - New "Intent to Marry" letter (newly dated and signed) - 3 recent pay stubs - New proof of ongoing relationship (recent photos, phone bills, emails, letters, etc) - The original K-1 package.

My SO's family cook their meals almost exclusively on an electric wok like the one you bought. She said that stove-top woks can't seem to get hot enough for her family. In my mind, it's a good purchase for you.

Although I found all of the websites helpful and I made a list of them all (thanks everyone), I'm certain there are some excellent mom and pop asian markets that don't have listings anywhere other than word of mouth.

This is something I worked out with my fiance when we were in the first stages of communication. She mentioned she hated cats, I told her I loved mine and that they're my babies. I made it clear that it's who I am and she needs to accept it if she wants to be with me. She accepted it. I would liken an animal lover's trait to how you were raised, similar to religion or being a mama's boy, which I think should be accepted by the SO. Others may compare the trait to things like driving fast or smoking, which could be cured. In the end, it doesn't sound like she has a problem with your love for your cat, just with your desire to put your mouth on it. I don't think it would be excruciatingly difficult for you to not kiss your cat around her.

Someone mentioned that there was a thread here on finding Chinese markets, but my search turned up empty. I'm in Phoenix and I've googled everything I can think of and still have no clue where Chinese markets in my area are. I'm certain they exist, but I'm sure they don't have their own websites and what not. Does anyone have a link to any kind of Asian market listing site? How does everyone else find the nearest Asian grocery store? By chance?

During a recent phone conversation, I mentioned to my SO that I have an urn with my mother's ashes in it in my house and that I'm holding on to them until I can find the vacation time to spread them out at sea (per my mother's wishes). This deeply troubled my SO, because she feels that this act sort of invited restless ghosts or something into our house. She wont even let me leave the urn in the garage when she gets here. Obviously, I can get a friend to hold onto them, although I feel strange asking the favor. Having an urn in the house is a pretty common western tradition, does your SO have serious issues with this too?

My SO uses the dirty slippers without any problems. I would too, but they're around 5 sizes too small.

Wow, I thought this was just in Phoenix, where the housing prices have doubled in the last 5 years, while incomes have stayed the same and have even declined a bit in some industries. Bummer that it's happening all over America though.

I'm sure people have mentioned dog and horse, which are quite good and highly recommended, but I couldn't bring myself to eat the horse penis and balls that my SO was eating. A bag of duck tongues is a nice treat there, sort of like pop corn here, hehe, but I thought it tasted nasty.
