My real concern is that since my son is "technically" a US citizen, if he can still use his Chinese passport for travel? Will that cause any problem when we apply US passport for him later. Thanks. lvlp

Hi, My son immigrated to US last year and, by Child Act 2000, he would acquire US citizenship automatically. My question is, do I HAVE TO apply US passport for my son NOW (who is only 4 this year) or it can be delayed till he is close to 18 years old? Can he still use his Chinese passport and green card to travel to China and come back to US? Anyone has similar situation? Thanks a lot. lvlp

At San Francisco POE, there is a special line named "New Immigrants" that is shorter most of the time when Citizen lines are long. Do not know about JFK. When entering, just show officer the unopened Visa package, have fingerprint and photo taken, and passport stamped. Pretty simple.

Hey mikepellicore, Congratulations! See your timeline and your wife got her SSN and GC so quickly. My wife entered US 6/4/09 as IR1 in San Francisco and we applied SSN at local Social Security Office on 6/8/09 (they told us even we selected to apply SSN on DS-230 Part II, it was not in the system by then so we needed to apply). Anyway, as of today, we are still waiting for her SSN and the welcome letter from USCIS. Do not know why it takes so long for us. Should we ask Social Security or USCIS about our concerns? Brian, we have not received P4 from GUZ too. It is said that could take few days. But I think it should be OK to make the travel plan. I am looking for air ticket now to be in GZ around 4/18. To be sure, I will check with DOS Monday to reconfirm the interview date.

Seems all of our cases (yours, mine, CooCookie's, JLock's, and Truger24's) sent late OCT08 are now waiting for the interview dates from GUZ. How do you get an interview date when you don't have a P3 sent by GUZ, or received back by GUZ yet? i am wondering the samething... For K cases, GUZ sends P3 to your beneficiary. For IR/CR cases, GUZ sends P4 instead. That's my understanding.

Lock, CooCookie, Brian, Truger24 and everyone with delayed late Oct 08 packages at GUZ: Just put up the phone with DOS. My case is still "not opened yet" in GUZ. They told me to call back on 23rd of March, the 5-month marker. Any good news from yours? lvlp

Sorry I was out of town yesterday and did not get chance to check CFL. Thanks lock for the info. I called DOS this morning and still no news. I tried to ask for some details but the guy just kept telling me GZ has not received the case. I was then speechless...

Congratulations! When did NVC send your case to GZ? Has your beneficiary received P4 yet? Thanks. NVC send our case to GZ on Nov 25th. P3 recieved Feb 14th, P3 send out Feb 16th. According to DOS GZ recieved P3 back on Feb 24th, p4 send out on Feb 26th. No My beneficiary has not recieved P4 yet. Our case left NVC to GZ on Oct 21st. Still no P4 yet. Does GZ open the case according to the date they receive them? I noticed some cases sent later from NVC than ours had already got interview scheduled. We have couple of people here on the same timeframe still waiting for P4.

If all yer waiting on is a P4 (from NVC to GUZ) then it's not a K-1 or K-3, which will actually have a p-3. for I-130, which will only have a P-4, it's supposedly the same 'wait' time - but once the physical case file is actually 'opened' at GUZ - there are different actions (as compared to the P-3) that will be taking place, internally, at GUZ. DOS will have some status, is useful to call and ask for CURRENT STATUS and also ask for the prior 3 status changes, types and dates. The DOS computer does get updates from GUZ, though it'll be anywhere from 1 to 3 days behind. Called DOS this morning and asked for details of case status change. But they refuse to tell. Very frustrated !
