  1. Good advice, I plan on filing jointly as we always have been doing. This time sucks since she ahs to apply for the 10 year green card and wait for the biometrics and green card to arrive before she can come. I wish we could ship the green card to china but I dont think thats smart...
  2. Thanks for the advice, I didnt plan on using the train that much but thanks for the heads up about the fast train to Shanghai. I plan on doing that some day...
  3. Hello everyone! My wife and I will be leaving to Hangzhou to work there for the next 5 years or so and I had some questions about moving there. I will be leaving in July and my wife will follow a few months later after she gets her 10 year green card. I am also applying for an I-131 for 2 years so she will be okay to re-enter in the future. Oh, and one more thing we are moving to the West Lake district in Hangzhou. 1. Can I live comfortably with an annual salary of at least 200,000 RMB before taxes? And will I have to pay taxes while I'm in China? 2. Is it really that hard to live there with rent/AC/utility bills? I am pretty sure the money I make should be enough but my wife told me that living in Hangzhou isnt cheap. She asked her friends on 001 and they told her it can cost over 7,000 RMB a month there. 3. I will be bringing my xbox with me to china, should I take it as a carry on or place it in my suitcase? Also my wife wants to ship our desktop to china too so im not sure if thats okay...i know the shipping costs is gonna suck...also i know i need adapters i am bringing them too.. Thanks in advance for your advice/comments. Bill and Wen
  4. Dan, Thanks for the links, I cant believe that they don't keep them on file...unreal. Well then wifey will be staying behind to get all that jazz done. Thanks again for the help! Bill
  5. Dan, Thanks for your reply, sorry about getting the terms wrong your right its green card not a visa. So we have to wait for the extension letter and then we can make an appt via the info pass to get the stamp on the passport to cover all of our bases, sounds good to me. But I'm not sure when i am leaving in July so she might have to stay behind to do all of those things...thanks for the advice, I will see where the closet field office is in Massachusetts. One more thing, my wife got her fingerprints done when she got her green card after we got married. Why would they need to take fingerprints (biometrics) a second time? Bill
  6. Hello all! I haven't been to this site in a while but I found I'm welcome no matter how long I'm away! I have a few problems that I think you guys can help me with, I will number them below so my questions don't get too cluttered. 1. I am moving to China because of work in July this year temporarily, and my wife's K1 Visa will be expiring in October after 2 years. I know we have to renew it 90 days before the expiration date so I'm a little nervous that we are leaving when the 10 year visa green card will be starting. My question is: Is there always an interview? Can I tell them in the papers I have to send July 1st why I cant be there for an interview? Or is it random and they interview some people but not everyone? I think we can send out the paperwork July 1st but I'm not sure on the turnaround time though. 2. My second question (I know I asked several questions in my first question though)is: If we move to China how long can my wife stay there with me? I'm not sure how long I will be staying there, I think 6 months but I'm not sure. One thing I am worried about is when we send out her papers to file for the 10 year green card, should she stay here and wait to travel until she has the new green card? Thank you for taking the time to answer my long questions. I will be checking back here frequently to answer any questions anyone has. Thanks. Bill and Wen
  7. Hi everyone, My wife wants to learn how to drive here in the US. I cant find a drivers manual for Chinese speakers, does anyone know where i can get a translated version of the driving manual? We live in Massachusetts by the way, I try to help her myself but she needs to learn the techincal parts herself. Any ideas where I can get a new or used copy? Thanks. Bill
  8. Not sure if I posted this in the right thread but oh well. My Wen and I will be traveling back to China this November, and I was wondering if I need to file some travel papers for her. She has her green card, so I'm not sure if that's all she needs to show when she comes back or if she needs the travel forms. Thanks for the help! Bill and Wen
  9. Hi all, My wife is going back home for a month due to a family emergency and I was wondering what I need to prepare for her departure. I did one of the forms, I cant remember which, that dealt with travel. I believe she is set to travel until Sept 2010. She has her permanent green card as well. If she leaves what does she need to return? Green card? travel authorization? Thanks for the help. Bill and Wen
  10. Dumb question, but my wife got her permanent resident card and we did not receive an interview either. My question is, do we need to wait for a work permit in the mail? If not, then what do we do after the resident card? Wait until the 90 days before it expires and reapply? Could it be that easy? Thanks for the help! Bill and Wen {edit} corrected topic title.
  11. oh my bad, she got here fine. The LAX POE was good, but she got lost in the airport so she didn't have time to call me. I met her at Boston when she got here and got her some good ole dunkin donuts coffee! She is adjusting well now, and apparently I know nothing and she knows everything! Ha, I will send out a new topic in this next week! Thanks all... Bill
  12. well, the BS started when they asked for something that isn't required! I have flown with these guys several times and no mention of my passport number came up. Also when I called Orbitz they said its not needed as well. And technically speaking her luggage does go to boston but you just said that at the FIRST POE, you have to recheck it, so I don't understand where you were going with that. And that's not considered going straight to Boston when you have to stop, and check it again, aren't we just being a tad picky???
  13. Well, she didnt get the guys name or number...oh well.. I can still complain and stop using that airline!
  14. maybe I posted this in the wrong forum, sorry about that.
  15. Hi all, My girl is finally coming here!! She is in GUZ airport waiting for her flight to LAX right now, but I would like to share some sour grapes on china's part that I hope nobody else went through. First airport Changsha, my girl goes to the counter and they ask for ticket (e-ticket w/Orbitz) so she gives it to him. The guy then says, where is passport number on copy? My girl says no need, he said she can't get 2 tcikets (same airline for her 2 stops), so he give her only ticket to GUZ. And then tells her good luck on getting a ticket in GUZ. So I spend last minute effort to get her passport number in computer, but then they never ask for it!! Then she arrive at GUZ. Here we go again. Jerk employee: ticket My girl: here you go JE: where is your final destination? MG: boston,Mass JE: how long will you live there? MG: life JE: What is your purpose for going there? MG: marriage JE: oh ok, well don't worry about your luggage it will go straight to Boston. MG: But I hear (it doesn't, it stops at the first customs airport) that it stops at first customs place I go to in USA. JE: hmm...nope! Have a nice flight! I am going to write Orbitz and China Southern airlines about this obvious regard to confuse and try to hurt my girl!!! I have never heard of this crap with airlines before, anyone else deal with this type of sour grapes before? Bill
  16. Congrats!! Good luck with getting your pink!!
  17. Thanks for the advice, I'm sure my girl will be fine.
  18. My girl will be arriving in the USA on May 31st. She will first hit Los Angeles International airport for her point of entry then on to Boston! Does anyone have any experience or stories they would like to share for this airport for POE's? Thanks.
