  1. I would like to thank all for so much helpful information. I'm glad I asked.
  2. My wife's interview to adjust status is in a couple weeks (Form I-485). Among the items listed to take with us are those already presented in GUZ, e.g., affidavit of support, w2's, federal tax returns, etc. Does anyone know which of these documents are absolutely necessary? Also, how should we prepare for this interview. My wife tells me that just because the interview is being held in the US does not mean I should take a casual attitude about it. Thanks
  3. My wife arrived in June and I'm still recovering from that ordeal. Now my wife and I are thinking about adopting from China. I'll be glad to hear from any member of this community that has advice or suggestions on this issue. For instance, is there an age limit? How long, on average, does this take? Where to start when we finally make the final decision? Thanks.
  4. I filed the required AOS papers for my wife in June (forms I-485 and I-765). The only processing times I see listed at the National Benefit Center is for the I-765, which also adds "based on a pending I-485 adjustment application." Is the processing time for the I-485 listed separately someplace else?
  5. One of the items requested by Guangzhou for my wife's followup interview was a notarized copy of my passport. I was fortunate to find a notary that had extensive immigration experience. The following is what she did: 1. copy the passport (front to back), making sure the copy machine setting captures clearly the visas and entrance/exit stamps; 2. stamp each copied page with the notary's seal showing the date the notary's commission expires; 3. attach to the copy a certification statement with the notary's signature, seal, and current date. 4. my certification statement read as follows: CERTIFICATION The undersigned certifies that she is a Notary Public for the State at Large for (name of state) and that, as such, she is authorized to notarize these copies of the original official United States of America passport of (petitioner's name) and hereby verifies that she has compared each copy to each original page of the original passport and the pages attached hereto is a true and accurate copy of Mr. (petitioner's name) original passport. In WITNESS WHEREOF, I have signed and sealed this Certificate as of the (current date, e.g., 10th day of August, 2006).
  6. Thanks for all the information. I'll send the document 'just in case...'
  7. My SO does not have the I-134 for her March 10 interview. Can a faxed copy work at the interview?
  8. Question 11 of Form I-134 (affidavit of support) asks whether or not I intend to make 'specific contributions' to the support of the beneficiary. This affidavit is for my wife's upcoming interview. What am I supposed to say? I'm sorry if this question was previously resolved. Thanks.
  9. My situation is similar to (probably worse than) Jonathan's. I was in Shenzhen with my wife over the last couple weeks when her P3 arrived. I accompanied her the city's notarial office where she was told to return to Sichuan, her home province, for a police certificate!! My wife has lived in Shenzhen (in different addresses) for the past 5 years at least. So I don't know how much luck Jonathan's girl friend will meet at the city's notarial office, unless of course she's originally from Guangdong province. This has been quite frustrating for us. My wife cringes whenever any part of this process requires her to deal with public employees in her home country.
  10. I'm going to Shenzhen in December. I need suggestions on clean, reasonably priced hotels in the city. Thanks!
  11. The email from NVC confirming approval of my I-129F included the message below about security checks. Are these checks done both here and in GUZ? Just curious... "As part of the aftermath of the events of September 11, 2001, there are additional security check requirements for visa applicants. While it is not possible to predict when all the clearances for this case will be finished by all the involved Washington agencies, please be assured that as soon as the results are received NVC will be able to schedule this case for an interview at the US Embassy or Consulate General. Your office will be notified by mail when the interview is scheduled."
  12. I always call NVC during regular hours at 603-334-0700. Well, I decided to call the same number on Saturday and the recording says: "If you do not wish to use our automated service, please call back during regular hours"...and the phone went dead! Wouldn't it make sense for them to tell me how to access the 'automated system' before ending the recording? Am I missing something here?
  13. With an NOA1 dated April 6, 2005, my I-130 was just approved on September 21. You would've been approved too but for the piece of missing info. Out of desperation, I went ahead and filed the I-129f on September 12 and this might be approved within 2 weeks, judging from the activity on my application. Maybe you should consider doing same!?
  14. Thanks for the number. But I remember seeing the so-called 'shortcuts' somewhere and I finally traced them to Visajourney. if anyone is interested, it's called 'James NVC shortcuts' and the link is: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...45entry373127
  15. Hello all, Could somebody please lead me to the NVC shortcuts. My I-130 was approved this week out of CSC. Thanks.
