  1. Hopefully the Civil's in KC know more about the K series exams than they do in the SW part of the state. We went in Monday with the vaccination book and the medical book and the Dr. started a new full physical. After talking to him he left and a nurse came back in after referencing the manuals and figured that a new TB skin test and a whole new series of shots are required. Looks like the TB test will have to be completed but the majority of the new shots as of 01/09 are not age appropriate. Back tomorrow for round two. Good Luck
  2. Hopefully you are not out in front of the Consulate this early. Enjoy the $10 Coke and wait for the pink! Good Luck
  3. Congratulations! It seemed like an easy overcome, just took some time.
  4. We went through SFO in late January. It was the easiest return of the five trips I have taken (2 SFO 3 ORD). We were processed at the same time and the new officer trainee asked all the questions of me. Yi asked about what additional food we could have brought back and they all laughed that we did not bring the abalone and squid. The senior officer was stationed in Taiwan for five years so it was a food story session. The mysterious sealed envelope, passport and I-94 were all that were asked for. Stapled the I-94 to her passport and away we went. All the trouble that we had for the lost X-Ray, replacement, and worries were for nothing, just as many had stated it would most likely be the case. Good Luck and enjoy it!
  5. There is a gentleman who used to say that we weren't always seeing the complete picture. He would get PM'd by the people with the white results. He leaves for an extended time and the white slips posted on the board increase, coincidence? I know many others receive these PM's as well. I wanted to ask the same question.
  6. Numbers are great. If you are honest with them, they will always be honest with you. Problem with trying to reach an "estimated chance of success" calculation is this is way too heavily influenced by the human factor that you will never be able to take into account. How will you account for outliers? Will they be discarded? Will you run the ASTM to make sure that they are a true outlier? Same rules for K-1/K-3/CR-1? More emphasis placed on prior marriages/divorces for the spousal visas? Different sub-categories for English ability? Differing stats for each provence? The empirical data is available, but the human factor remains an unknown variable that you will never be able to quantify in an equation. Did the VO not hear correctly the answer given? Does the VO think that certain areas are more inclined to fraud and did that influence their decision? Was your loved one nervous the whole time? Seems that small items have lead to denials. Each case is weighed on its own perceived merit. If what the GUZ peolpe have stated before is true, each case is not reviewed extensively prior to the interview but briefly scanned just before the interview.
  7. Sad day in Bronoco land. Maybe Red Miller is still available Don't need, don't want "The Chin"
  8. I guess Pat Bowlen saw it the same way. Same man who said Shanny had a job for life. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3800768
  9. If you are traveling via SkyPier to HKG this is what their website has about check-in policy: http://www.hongkongairport.com/eng/transpo...-prd-ports.html A couple of weeks ago we checked at ZhuHai and if I recall correctly a printed check-in page was allowed. United will not allow you to print complete boarding pass away from HKG. The one thing that the ladies at Jiuzhou Port were adamant about was the 2 hour lead time upon ferry arrival to plane departure, regardless of not having any checked bags. This one has a flow chart and other items to help get started. I'm sure your lady won't let you forget to get your refund on the departure tax. Yi's already hounded me to make sure we will get ours. http://www.hongkongairport.com/eng/transpo...-prd-ports.html Good Luck Steve
  10. Not a Lions fan but a lifelong Broncos fan. Gearing up for the completion of the colossal collapse, game starts in 20 minutes. I don't know which is worse, knowing after week 8 that your chances of going 0-16 are better than 50/50 or watching a 3 game lead with 3 left evaporate.
  11. 46-10!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Bowl_XX Interesting..Since we are going that farrrr back.. Super Bowl XXV 1990- 20-19...Wide right! Wide right! Good ole Bill Belichick was the Defensive Coordinator for this game...so sad... Also the Pats Super bowl record 3-1....Who cares about four straight, Wins are better than stats any day. The Bills super bowl record???? 0-4!!!! Enough said. Ah, the bandwagon just show up before the XXXVI game? If you would care to remember the Pats lost XX and XXXI. I believe that would make their record 3-3 in the big game. .500 not as glamorous as .750?
  12. Almost 7:00 again outside the Consulate. Nabeshin & Xu and Wang have their moment under the lights shortly. Good Luck to both and all others today. Steve
  13. First, I must thank everyone here at Candle. Some people may think that some of the posts become mundane and duplicitous, but I know the information I garnered while I had blinders on during the last weeks was truly priceless. I attended ACH on the 1st and was finally called to a window. The VO was a very attractive young lady. She politely answered my questions and I was quickly on my way. Easy questions according to her but some that I had worried over for some time. As everyone has mentioned, the great 7:15 rat race the next morning came and went. I waited until 11:30 before Yi came down. There were many school kids interviewed that day for I am guessing B2 visas and at least three were denied so a large crowd gathered at the corner to see the denials and this kept me from seeing Yi immediately. She was in the no BS mood and I had no idea what she received. Finally by the elevators she told me she got the pink but was concerned that we had not checked out of the Westin in time so she wanted to get going and not pay additional charges. She told me after check out about the lost X-Ray was why she was not excited. She went through the normal pre-interview steps and went to the window and began her interview. I have 19 Hispanics working for me and Yi's English is better than all but two of them, unless she feels intimidated by another English speaking person. She said she was nervous and luckily the VO switched to Mandarin after the first 3 or 4 questions. The questions in no particular order: Good Morning Do you speak English? Who is your fiancee? Yi corrected the VO that it was husband Where did you meet? When did you meet? How many times did he come to China? I made four trips including this one. The second was only for two days as I knew that we would both be busy for the summer. Why only two days in March? The VO also asked/stated if I was still with her after Yi told her I came in November. Why did you marry him so quickly? Why do you say you love him? How do you feel about your English? Have your parents met him? Do they like him? Has he been married before? How long? Why divorce after such a long time? Do the boys live with him? What are their names/ages? Do you talk only on the cell phone? What do you talk about? What food does he like? What is his favorite color? Do you have pictures? What does he do? What do you do? How much does he make a month? How much do you make a month? Has he sent you any money? How much? How old are you? And my favorite exchange, How old is he? after answering the VO replied, Oh really, he looks much older in the pictures. She said that there were other questions but she doesn't remember because it went by so quickly. What bothered her was the VO was constantly typing the entire time and it distracted Yi. The other thing that bothered her was that the VO so "so beautiful and spoke perfect Mandarin". She had the same VO as I spoke to at ACH. Not implying anything other than very coincidental. I chose to gamble on the quality over quantity approach in setting up Yi's proof file. It was the right approach for us and this VO. She correctly answered all the questions and while she did not supply any back up proof that was in the file to the majority of the questions, when she did need something it was immediately at her disposal, arranged by her the night before. There is a chopper pilot on here who's mentioned before that this is all a crap shoot, luck of the draw, call it what you want. I firmly believe this. Had she been interviewed by a VO with a woody to deny anyone she may not have passed. We drew the right VO for us. She asked many questions that someone should know if they are in a real relationship. Asked them very quickly with additional stress to see how they were answered. If I could thank this particular VO in person, I don't know where I would start. After reading the trials and heartache of Charles and Tsap and others I feel very fortunate that we did get the perfect draw we have been waiting a year for. Hope this helps someone.
  14. Yi did it! Passed with pink, but going through security check someone took her X-Ray and did not return it to her. Hectic 72 hours, just back to ZhuHai. Will post questions and ACH visit after dinner with Mama and Baba.
  15. CONGRATUALTIONS! and thanks, Steve. I called and we got our date too. Good Luck Steve
  16. Looks like you'll have to update again. Congratulations and good luck to Stepbrow. Looks like they have an interview date. Good Luck Steve
  17. Love the graphical Version 2.0. Should be an easy answer to the how long is average questions. You are doing a great job. Keep it up and good luck the rest of the journey. What part of OKC do you call home? We had an office in Noble and many contacts in the Mustang, Edmond, and Warr Acres areas.
  18. It seems that one of the first topics brought up at the interview is any former marriages terminating properly and the timing of meeting the current wife. I have worked with half a dozen world-class smart-asses for over 17 years. After my former filed for divorce everyone left me alone during the process. As is the case, the truth came out immediately after the divorce was final and the ex promptly remarried. It was game on with the colleagues. The ex always had a flair for the dramatic, so their wedding photo in the local paper was no excception. They were dressed in some Southern plantation getup and the picture definitely made you look. The e-mails from my friends started the next day. All had a scan of the annoucement with varying comments. I now have proof of her remarriage prior to meeting lao po. Do I clean one up and submit it at the interview, or just supply the necessary information?
  19. Sony Ericsson's 900 series from China will allow you to switch languages and the strokes are on the number pad and has the suggestion/hint feature. I bought a 908i in January and the 910 is the upgrade. Uses SIM cards and they are sliders if that is a problem. She did not want to upgrade when I was there earlier this month. The 908 has video phone if you have access to a true 3G network and this capability at both ends, portable webcam. Did not have enough time to check the 910 out throughly.
