  1.

Do you think DOS = Department of State? Because on the bottom of DHL's website, it says the sender is Department of State. Just my guess though.

Yes, I think that must be it. However, I don't think the sender is going to know the status of the consulate. I think we would probably need to contact the consulate itself, but maybe the DOS has a working number for them. They probably had to have a phone number to provide DHL when shipping. :)

  2. Again, once the file leaves the NVC, DHL will have it in Guangzhou, within less than a week. While it will be in China Customs for a period of time for clearance, I seriously doubt that it is as long a time as some have speculated. The longest wait has been in the GUZ warehouse, waiting in queue, IMO.

The Chinese know what is in these pallets addressed to USCOCGUZ, they see thousands come through every month. They have too much crap coming through Customs each day, to have these shipments tie up staff and floor space at China Customs for an inordinate amount of time.

DHL ships it express, so it is in Guangzhou in 3 days, then the "Clearance delay" (which, according to DHL, is when it sits in a dock waiting to be "received" by a consulate officer). Would you consider 2 weeks as normal? The delay on our shipping is at 2 weeks now, and still not received.

DOS call center 0830 to 1700 hrs. EDT.

202-663-1225 To avoid the intro message dial 1 then 0 after connecting.

Have GUZ # and beneficiary name and DOB ready for operator.

    Best wishes !!

Thanks for this number. What does DOS stand for? I figured that calling the consulate would be best, but I tried calling the number on the Guangzhou consulate website, and it is no longer a good number. The number you listed appears to be a US number, so I'm curious what location it is, and how they would know what is going on at the Guangzhou consulate.

    Thanks,

    Bill

  3. thank you! mine was just sent out from nvc on 5/20, i don't expect to hear about P3 until maybe july/august. though, i don't think i can rest my mind. i probably will still check DHL like 3 times a day. i know i am crazy, but i cannot relax until my husband gets his visa.

yes, I have the same crazy virus. I check about 3 times each day, even after checking the 1st time and seeing the "delayed" marked for that day, I still check a couple of more times. Must have something to do with the connection we have with our fiancee's/fianc¨¦'s.

  4.

For what it's worth, I did hear back from DHL, and according to them, this delay is not truly a "held up in customs" delay (that's just how their automated website displays it). The package is actually out of their hands, but not yet processed by the US consulate. Because is it political papers, DHL will not change the status until the consulate processes in the package.

No offense intended, Bill. But, digging up and responding to a 5 year old thread really doesn't mean much today.

But, I do understand. Some of the drivel posted here lately make this thread worthy of resurrection. :D

Well, after the response that many CFL threads have died without closure, I felt that maybe throwing a little closure on this one would make one less thread in that category. FWIW. :ok:

(don't worry, I don't plan on researching and resurrecting every thread that has gone unresolved ... this one just happen to fit into my current situation)

  5. Yes, I think this is the one. I think it is common that Chinese custom delay in taking it, because the shipment is consider holding sensitive documents. Keep an eye on the DHL tracking. It might soon say GZ ML pick it up! Good luck!

  6. There are many unanswered stories in the Naked Candle, Bill.

BTW notice the OPs handle isn't like ours? Means he ain't around.

  7. King, thanks for getting some information about the DHL mail delay straight from the horses mouth. Although I have emailed Linda Donahue personally about this matter, I have not received the courtesy of a reply. Since your contacts in GZ indicate the matter is being handled "at the embassy level", I am sending a fax to the Honorable Clark T. Randt, Jr., the U. S. Ambassador to China, in Beijing asking for an update. I encourage anyone else affected by this delay to do likewise. As best I can discern, the fax number for the Ambassador is 011 86 10 6532-6929.

The notion this delay, now approaching 6 weeks, is not affecting persons awaiting official action only initiated upon receipt of the delayed paperwork is simply undeserving of comment.

Is anyone from this original thread still around? I'm just curious what came of this. What was the final delay? Did you come to learn the cause for the delay?

  8. Okay, I tried that, and I did not see anything that went out from US Dept of State. I only saw a handful, and they all were coming out of NH, and only one was going to Guangzhou. The problem is, it showed delayed in Guangzhou. Do you think this is the right one? Why would it be delayed?

I should have scrolled down the web page more. Doh!

Sure enough, it shows that it is diplomatic papers leaving the US Dept of State. I called DHL to inquire as to the 10 day delay. They are supposed to call me back tomorrow.

  9. for example if you confirmed that NVC sent out your case on Feb 12, 2007. Then in DHL.com 's track by reference section,

you type: EXP 11 FEB 2008A or EXP 11 FEB 2008B

under the "date range" put 02/12/08 to 02/12/2008. If you should be able to see a list of shipments went out from US Dept of State. Make sure you look into the one that contains US Diplomatic Papers.

This is not 100% accurate, but mostly if you have confirmed sent out date NVC, your case should be with that shipment.

    Thank you!

  10. Well, though I don't 100% sure that the shipment went out from NVC to GZ exactly has my file, I assumed. Since I confirmed the ship out date w/ NVC and there is only one shipment going to GUZ that day, I think mine is probably in there.

I just went to DHL.com then put in EXP (one day prior to ship out date) then type either "A" OR "B" after the year, then it will put up a list of NVC shipment for that day. I clicked on GUZ and found out the details of it.

    First of all, congratulations!

Secondly, is this secret code? If I go to DHL.com and put EXP in the tracking field, I get an error. Can you be more specific how you used DHL.com to get your shipping status?

    Thanks!

  11. Hello CFLs

My G finally got the P3. quick question, do we need to fill both english and chinese forms of ds230-1.

we have previously filled the english copy of DS230-part1. we are just curious if we can just send in the english copy of ds230.

    please advice.

    thanks

Since it's a US consulate, I would guess yes. The Chinese form is probably for the chinese national who cannot read and write English well, and who then would have to get it translated to English (that's my guess anyway).

  12.

I just confirmed with CSC that both of my CR1 + K3 got approved on 05/08/2008. On USCIS's website, it still shows pending for both, so that's why I needed even get an e-mail notice.

    I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo HAPPY!!

It has been exactly 180 days since I filed my CR-1!!

    Great to hear! Congratulations.

  13. We had our GUZ interview on the morning of May 12.

    [snip]

The CO asks the dreaded, "Are you a communist party member?"

I've read a lot about this dreaded question, which does seem to come up often enough. This prompted me to talk to my fiancee about this, especially since she had a government job. Oddly enough, she told me she was the only one in her department that was not a member of the CCP. When I asked why she did not join, she said it was because she didn't want to pay the dues. This made me laugh.

Good luck with the final outcome. May 12 was the day I returned from my 5th trip to China, and while I was there, we received email notification of our NOA2 approval. We are also lined up for a GUZ interview. You got your NOA2 on 11/29 with a 5/12 interview, so that would indicate perhaps a 10/15 interview.

  14. Bill, that post was written shortly after I got home from China after the interview 3 weeks earlier.

I was told, by a visa officer, at ACH that our "...case looks strong. Sometimes we just need a little more time to look things over. Your fiancee was very well prepared for the interview, had all the evidence, and she answered all of the 26 questions very easily. I feel that in a month, month and a half she should be getting a letter from
    us
, asking her to bring her passports back and we'll give her our decision."

That was just shy of 8 months ago, since her interview.

8 months! Holy crap. I'm very sorry to hear that. I can only imagine the agony that causes. Do you stay with her in China? If not, how do you cope with the distance? I imagine a lot of trips to China would be in store for me if this happens to us.

Overcome???? I could only wish. We are honest people who have done nothing wrong. We had everything in order, had more evidence of a bona fide relationship than most people, and even had all of the overcome evidence they could have asked for...right there at the interview window.

No stone was left unturned in our preparation. Nothing was left to chance.

    We
    can
only speculate she was "profiled" from the city she comes from, as they will not let me know what is wrong, nor will they tell 2 Congressmen's liasons what is going on. I call
    DOS
everyday to hear the same garbage and I send 2 e-mails per month to
    GUZ
, again, to read the same garbage. Sorry, I
    can
't relate what city she comes from on the internet.

Can you tell me through private email?

They hope we will lose spirit and lose each other.

Don't let our story scare you. Read the
    FAQ
    's here on
    CFL
, and prepare your best. Rehearse the interview with your lady and instill confidence and a focus of the "goal" in your lady. She will do fine and you will be able to live out your dream.

Thanks for your concern. I wish I could give you better news. This has been quite the eye opener to me about my service to my country and how they appreciate it.

Thank you for sharing your experience. You mentioned 26 questions. Did you happen to post these 26 questions somewhere?

  15. Okay, my girlfriend and son go to the interview and get the blue slip. Now the Yang's are there for us to try and figure what went wrong and make plans to prepare for whatever we could to overcome the blue slip since the blue slip didn't ask for specific evidence and told us to wait three months and e-mail them if we haven't heard from them. After the interview the Yang's asked us to their own home three times over the next few days to review our case.

I've read three of yours posts with references about receiving the blue slip, but I cannot seem to find the conclusion to this story. It's like watching a suspenseful TV series that gets canceled before the show is finished. Is there a post somewhere that details the reason for the blue slip, and how you overcame it?

  16. As you may remember from other post I have made we were both very uneasy about our interview. Mr. yang helped us a great deal and made us feel at ease. He evem went through all of our paper work for us and told us what was the most important papers we had and what ones we should try to show the officer first. He also told us of some other paper work that would be help full for my wife's interview.

Do you happen to remember which of those papers were the most important, and which ones you showed at the interview first?

  17. Hi All,

Once my fiancee gets her K1 visa and comes to the US, we would really like to bring her parents to the wedding. They are Chinese nationals who have never been to the US before.

Is there anything I can do from my side to help get them here? Or are they pretty much on their own in obtaining a visitors visa from the US consulate in China? I would think (hope) that there is some special "attend their daughter's wedding" fast track, but I cannot find anything of the sort.

Anyone else find themselves in this position? What's the best way to go about it?

  18. This really isn't a good thing. When I think of 'Western,' values I think of a very materialistic lifestyle where people think of instant gratification, the loss of stable family life, loose sexual values, selfish behavior, and willingness to screw over 100+ other people for even a slight gain.

I consider myself to have "western" values, but I don't value any of the things you listed here. Maybe you just need to get new friends. ;)

  19. Give them love and security without condition and Chinese women are the most loyal and devoted women on the face of the earth. There is no grey area with them. Their switch is either on or off. And, we control the switch. The key here is ACTION. By our actions, they will be loyal, loving wives or they can become cold and detached in a heartbeat.

This is an intriguing post, thanks.

I have definitely experienced the cultural difference between the west and the east, or more specifically, the US and China. The more intimate you are with the woman, the more intimate you become with these differences. Because I am deeply in love with my fiancee, I try never to judge these differences, despite how much pain and frustration they can cause sometimes. As a few others have said, of course not all Chinese women are the same, but make no mistake, these cultural differences exist regardless of the individual personalities. The differences run much deeper than the "cleanliness" issue.

In my situation, our personalities are so strong, that these differences struck us hard. Sometimes it feels like riding a wild bull, and when this happens, we just grab on hard to the reins, and hope we're still on when the bucking stops.

The good news is, the bucking always stops at some point. It's not always easy to predict when, just like it's not easy to predict what will cause the bucking to begin.

I'm speaking in very general terms here, because if I filled in the examples and details, this would turn into a book. I would like to recommend to all those not deeply familiar with Chinese culture to rent (or buy) the following film: China: A Century of Revolution.

This wonderful 3-disk documentary will give you some tremendous insight into why the Chinese handle hard situations differently than us. The Cultural Revolution of the last 60's and early 70's probably had the biggest impact on the generation that we are dating now. There have been so many events in Chinese history where most people really had no choice but to grit their teeth and bear it. If you are involved with a Chinese partner, you owe it to yourself and your partner to educate yourself on this deep and profound history. I know it made a big difference to me, and therefore to our relationship.

Sometimes it's a wild ride, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

  20. I filed a joint petition Feb 12. The check had been cashed and on the back was what appeared to be a reciept number but it only has 12 digits. No NOA has been received. What is the customer service number I should call.

The phone number can be obtained from the USCIS website (for future reference). However, even with the phone number, it takes a bit of number acrobatics to get to a live person. Here's the sequence of numbers that will get you a real operator:
