Jeikun
Went to get the SSN today. The lady said She couldn't get verification of any of the info on Jun's entry documents, so she had to request verification from the Department of Homeland Security. Said we could expect her SS card in 60 days!!! Oh well, at least she's here. Link to comment
tonymasiello
You did better than us. We didn't even get that far. Link to comment
frank1538
Same thing for Jingwen and the kids. SSA had to get EAD verification from USCIS, but they all got their cards within about a month or so. Link to comment
Jim - Portland, USA
Same thing happened with us. It's normal. Link to comment
Jeikun
Well, I'm relieved to hear it's not just me, and it worked out for you guys. Still pretty annoying though. The lady at the counter said it was typical too. I said "Yeah, department of Homeland security... sounds typical"... she kinda rolled her eyes and said "yep. typical" Link to comment
tonymasiello
We decided not to file EAD. Quan's not going to be working anytime soon. There has been some small issues with not having a SSN so far, but nothing major yet. I know that a driver's licence is going to be an issue at some point. Not really sure what we can do it for it now. Link to comment
warpedbored
Perhaps it depends on how long they have been in the country. When we applied for Bing's SSN she had been here a little over a month. The info was in the computer at the SSA office. Her SSN came about 4 days later. Link to comment
lele
Went to get the SSN today. Said we could expect her SS card in 60 days!!! Oh well, at least she's here. Same thing happened to us. But we went on Monday of this week (only a few days after Rong arrived). However, a copy of that form saying it was being processed was enough, and the MA RMV issued her a state ID Card that same afternoon... Now, it is time to finish compiling all of the AOS papers and getting married next week! Good Luck to you. also, if you are in Boston, I can fill you in on the place we went to (it was no problem at all for us)... Link to comment
Shanghai Meetup
Just an FYI. You can find a guide to getting the SSN here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?pg=ssn This is good because it warns how not to go too early or too late and also describes how to "argue" if the SSA person does not know the policy. It also links to the current law so you can print it and bring it with you. Link to comment
