tywy_99
I got a copy of it in Shanghai late 2002 only because I like Zhang Ziyi.... The scenes are great and the colors fantastic. Link to comment
tonado
Check out this new movie. It may win the best foreign movie this year. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/house_of_f...flying_daggers/ Link to comment
sylinchinastill
I disagree- maybe because I am a girl and I don't like fighting movies- I thought the photography and stunts were great but that they didn't communicate the plot like they could have. Zhang Yimou is a great director- but I think he sold out here. Link to comment
Guest DragonFlower
Flying Daggers is one of the movies the wife and I watched, last time I was there.Very disappointed.I like Ziyi as well, but not in this movie. The Road home and Crouching Tiger, will always define the essence of Ziyi to me.We will never see the innocent girl from the Road Home again,my wife even claims it can not be the same Ziyi who plays this part. Yimou is a masterful director,I cry rivers of tears, each time I watch To Live. Here again,Flying Daggers does not hit the mark.Incoherent and camera work for the sake of itself.I have not seen Hero,I hope it is good. But Crouching Tiger is still the KING. long Link to comment
turtle
I was really shocked at the good reception Hero has gotten in the US. It didn't seem to be very well received in China, despite mega-hype. I know when I saw it in Qingdao last year the audience was roundly unimpressed, and I considered walking out. The scenery is beautiful, but the story just didn't do anything for me. Link to comment

My parents saw the movie and they said it was boring. I thought Crouching Tiger was okay. I like Iron Monkey better. I prefer Cantonese movies. Link to comment
lele
What about Raise the Red Lantern (is that the correct title) also by the same director? Link to comment
Guest enight
the director was disliked by many Chinese, becasue he presented strange culture even to Chinese to please a foreign world Link to comment

beijingjenny
Jack and most people he knows (and many I do) really just found Hero way too ridiculous. He liked Flying Daggers a *little* better. I watched Hero in a cinema (his work gave tickets for free, why it seemed so popular, gov't promotion) only in Chinese and missed a lot but did enjoy the cinematography. Link to comment
