hamlett22
My fiance is waiting for her interview in Guanzgzhou for her fiance visa. When she gets it and we travel to the states, is she free to travel within the states to visit my parents with me before she gets a SS.# and an ID card? I ask because I just realized she won't have a US ID until after we get married and apply for her greencard and SS#. So, can she fly domestically without a greencard or SS card? Again, I ask because usually the airlines require two forms of ID to fly domestically in the states. Of course, she'll have her passport but is that enough? Thanks much. Chad Link to comment
awch
I think she should have no problems traveling. The fiance visa is for 3 months in the US- travel or whatever. You're supposed to get married on it of course, but I don't see why she wouldn't be able to fly domestically. For the ID, have her use her passport and her Chinese ID card- I think that should be enough??? Link to comment
Jim - Portland, USA
She will have no problems whatsoever flying domestically within the 50 US states. I know this for sure after doing the same thing many times over the years. Just last week my my sweetie and I flew from Portland, OR to New York City and her Chinese passport did the trick everytime. My sweetie and I went to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty exactly 30 days after she came to the US, for fun, not because it's required Just be sure none of the flights have a stopover in any Canadian cities (don't forget that Canada is different country, I'm always amazed how some people forget this simple fact). And I'm not sure about US territories like Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, and so forth. Be safe, stay away from those places for now. Just stick to the 50 states of the union and you guys will be fine. Have a great trip! Link to comment
turtle
So, there's no way to go to Canada till she gets the green card? That stinks, we'd been hoping to get up to Vancouver for Chinese New Year. Also to check out the great chinese supermarkets in Richmond. Link to comment
John & Hai Yan
Yep! K1 is a one entry Visa. If she leaves the country, there can be BIG problems when she tries to get back in. Link to comment

A friend of mine's wife who whent back to China for a while on AP booked a flight back to the US from Hong Kong with a stop in Canada. They wouldn't let her board the flight because she didn't have a green card yet. She had to get another flight without a stop in Canada. Link to comment

I *would* stay away from Guam and those territories however! Link to comment
warpedbored
Actually Guam and the US Virgin Islands are US territories as much as Puetro Rico. If you can go there you should be able to go to those places too. But as someone else just posted the litmus test is whether or not you need to clear customs to get there. Link to comment

But as someone else just posted the litmus test is whether or not you need to clear customs to get there. There is the difference of customs. Puerto Rico is a commonwealth, and hence it is not prevue to a customs check. However, guam is a territory, and hence is prevue to a customs check. So legally, although the difference is small, in this case, it may actually be important! I wish that someone who was really knowledgable about this could help however. Link to comment
