Mark

Nice to hear from you. I'm writing the story right now. It is scheduled to

run Wednesday.

I'll call the State Dept today to ask about the 5,000 and will let you know

what they say.

Mark

Subject: Visa Delays

Hi Mark,

I spoke with someine in Powells office this morning at 6:45 (202-647-5291)

They transfered me to Andrew Simpkin in the Consulate Affairs ofice.

I was told that about 5000 back-logged name check approvals were sent to

the

Guangzhou Consulate last week.

As a reporter, can you check the valitity of this?

Thank you,

 Been on hold for 20mins at CA, got transferred from Powell's office. Then spoke to a woman, she said she heard about the 5000 visas to China too about a minute ago, but it was not confirmed from her office. Then she ask for my file # and put me on hold for 5 minutes. Then she came back and said that I am the very first one that got the approval of visa, she was so glad to tell me that I was the very first one, whoohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111  :D :P  :) B)

She also said that Guangzhou should know about it, and this is so new that they don't know how GZ will handle it.

My GOD!!!!!!!!! :D

 I was too excited!!! I didn't even ask the woman's name from CA office. She was also excited for me too, because she said that this is the very first visa approval from them to GZ. I ask if they will wire this info to GZ, she said that GZ should know about it and that I should call GZ to ask them about it.

Hi All,

Good morning! I've read through the numerous posts about the information that 5,000 security background checks are being returned and sent to Guangzhou.

I do feel it is imperative that we track down the validity of this information and obtain contacts. However, as we do so, please avoid posting any contact information that should not be distributed to avoid burning bridges and alienating valuable contacts within government organizations.

At this point, I do want to say that I am very optimistic and hopeful!!!

Thanks,

P.J.

WOW! they didnt lie to me!

I called back after all the negitive news and calle the 202-663-1225, got lucky and got Sarah. she hadent heard of the 5000 news either.

SO as determined as I was as this point i called powells office again1

and would not take thas not our department crap!

so after a few shuffling me around i got the big lady at the 663-1225 number.

she had not heard of the 5000 either, so i asked her if she knew this Andrew Simpkin guy, she said yes.

I asked why he would tell me this if not true? she said she would get to the bottom of it and call me back. so far no call back.

I see we have visas rolling?
