tywy_99
The whole point of sending in your U.S. passport was to prove to the VO that you were concerned and committed and were in GZ waiting for your fiance to get her visa. The only way for her to get your original passport and show it to the VO is for you to physically be there and hand it to her moments before she walks into the interview. She had my drivers license too. The VO kept it. I had to get a new one when I returned to the USA.Hi Moon, So how do things stand with y'all now? Did your love get her visa yet? and what was the deal with the VO wanting a copy of your passport and keeping you DL?.... Sounds like cruel and unusual tactics, or something. anyways, I hope all is okay now and I hope this mess is or will be behind you soon. Good luck! Link to comment
MoonCarolCafe
So how do things stand with y'all now? Did your love get her visa yet? Nope. No visa. The only contact as of last night has been the consulate faxing my firm to request verification of my employment particulars. Link to comment

wolffjw
Okay, I guess I'm just denser than dull wood but I'm still trying to understand this business about having a certified-notarized copy of my passport for my fiancee when she attends her interview. First, let me say that I plan to be there with her, obviously waiting outside. Next, I am 'assuming' that the copy of my passport needs to include a copy of my most recent stamp entering China to be with my fiancee during the time of her interview. Is this correct? Is this the point of the need for a copy of my passport, or do they just want a copy to certify I really am an American and I really have been to China before? Gosh... what next? Certified-notarized copy of our driver's licenses too? My D/L says that I'm an organ donor. Does that count? -jim Link to comment
warpedbored
It appears that the VO had his/her mind made up to deny Moon's wife her visa come hell or high water. Every obstacle they threw at him he dealt with one after another until all they could do is issue a yellow slip and tell them don't call us we'll call you. It is utterly ridiculous and if I were Moon I would be beating on every door that I could think of to make them listen to reason. It is truly appalling how wifes and fiances of American citzens are treated by our consulate. Moon if you want to start a letter writing campaign you can count me in. Link to comment

No one knows what a VO will ask for during the time of the interview if anything. My wife got a blue slip asking for my certified divorce decree from the courthouse. Luckily, I was there with her. I called back home and got my parents to go to the courthouse and get a copy of it and fax it to the hotel we were staying at. After that, I was warning all to make sure you have all your divorce papers in order, if any. All one can do is prepare the best you see fit and hope for the best. If something does come up then handle it quickly and without prejiduce! The one I haven't heard about for a while is a blue slip requesting a photo of the petitioner with a newspaper. Link to comment
James
They've really requested a photo with a newspaper? what are the particulars? Link to comment
tonymasiello
I've never heard of it being requested, but the 'newspaper trick' is a great way to prove that a photo was taken after a particular date. Quan and I did this on our last trip, and my lawyer then submitted the newspaper's front page along with the photo as part of our evidence. Link to comment
tywy_99
They've really requested a photo with a newspaper? what are the particulars?Yep, it is one of the check-off items listed on the infamous blue slip, along with , video, more evidence, etc.......... The reason for this is apparent. They want to see the subject at a particular and unmistakenly recent date. A newspaper can do this. I don't know the details of a case one time but this was asked by the consulate in GZ of an applicant to have this photo of the petitioner. Apparently, the petitioner had died and the applicant did not make this known to Immigrations. Link to comment
mikem
OK I have to but in here,, its to help. From GZ point of view all photos are suspect,, of being in China,,Photos can be doctored I do not care if anybodys attorney tells you this is the way to go..with so much computer doctoring equipment around you can understand the issue. Here is the proof positive to prove you have been in China with your future Lao Po.. Even if you are just filing/starting the 129 etc include this in your submittal package...WHEN IN CHINA GO TO ANY U.S. EMBASSY/CONSULATE WITH YOUR FINACE' WALK INTO THE EMBASSY/CONSULATE AND ASK TO SEE THE NOTARY THERE. NOTARY SERVICE IS FREE TO U.S CITIZENS.HAVE THE NOTARY PREPARE A STATEMENT SUCH AS"BEFORE ME APPEARED ON THIS DAY DATE/TIME ETC(WHATEVER EMBASSY YOU ARE AT)MR, SO AND SO OF (YOUR ADDRESS AS EVIDENCED BY YOUR PASSPORT AND MS. SO AND SO AS EVIDIENCED BY HER CHINESE I.D. CARD OR PASSPORT HAVE THEM PUT YOU PASSPORT NUMBER DOWN AND YOUR FIANCEE' I.D. NUMBER DOWN AS PROOF OF YOUR I.D. HAVE THE NOTORY SIGN AND STAMP THIS WITH THE SEAL.THE PAPER THEY USE SHOULD BE THE EMBASSY LETTER HEAD. GET 2 ISSUES THERE FREE IF NOT PAY THE NOTARY FEE EVEN. This notarzation is from the U. S. Govenment and not subject to question. You really don't think they will challenge notarized info from the other embassy do you?? This is undisputable proof you have been in China and have met with the future Mrs how the hell else could you get this if not in the embassy before the notary you had to be in China with you sig other..Second best proof is your Boarding pass from China only way you can get it is if you were there but still it only indicates you were there and did not meet with you future Lao Po. But it is seldom challenged. I went through this process without one hic-up I had a expert who has been doing this for many years as a service and I can assure you this info is water tight. And hell yes I sent a certified copy of my drivers license and SS card too, with my Fiancee' when she went into the interview at this point in the game why take a chance for want of a simple cert like this..The VO asked four questions of her.1) Do you speak English her reply, a littlle 2) How many times has your fiance been to China 4 times(supported by boarding passes, credit card receipts etc VO did not ask to see)3) Where will you live in the U. S. Alabama4)What does he do for a living EngineerThey did not ask to look at ANY documentation at all took the brown envelope and told her to come back at 4PM next day to get her VisaMy now wife even forced photos of us together on the VO he smiled and said nice, did not even look at them. So,, so much for photos..Hope this clears the proof of being in China thing.Mike Link to comment

If not what did you send??other then boarding passses and credit card receipts..If you are going to be at the interwiew, just hand her you passport while your waiting and if they ask she can say yes he is waiting outside did you want him to come in??This will shoot down the provide the newspaper thing also as you are there..They know if you are waiting outside//they guess you are not dead.. I re-read the scans my fiancee gave me of blue and red slips. I have put these up here if anyone wants to see them. I have no idea of their source or validity, but they seem consistant with everything I've read; http://tonymasiello.com/home/visa/ Link to comment
