tywy_99
My wife wanted to drive the '99 Ford Escort today. I obliged...big mistake; she sped off the side of the road, over the ditch, mowed down a few pine saplings before coming to a rest on top of a log!All is fine though. No one got hurt. Called a wrecker to tow us out and the car suffered minor damage.Couldn't blame her. It was my fault for even letting her into the driver's seat. One good thing may have come out of it; I don't think she will be bugging me to let her drive for awhile!......... Link to comment
Larry & Meirong
I asked my wife about driving. She said she was a good driver, but had trouble putting the car into the "car room". I'll let you know. Link to comment
newman
Another self-wife-driving instructor. Congratulations!! The first time I let my wife on the road, without a license, we got picked up. After the threats from the patrol, he let us go. We continued with the driving instructions in the closed down parking lot of K-mart. Thank God she's got her license and drives herself to work, but sure took its toll. Good luck and safe driving. warpedbored
This is timely since this morning Bing told me that someone told her that if she has a drivers licence from China she can drive here. I told her that is not true but I'm not sure she believes me lol. Link to comment

International reciprocity in driver licensing between a state in the United States and another nation is determined, first, by international agreements between the United States and other countries, and, second, in the absence of any international agreement, by individual state laws. tywy_99
My dear wife. She is a little down about yesterday's incident. I told her not to worry too much over it, just chalk it up as a lesson learned.I think I will take her to DMV and let her take the test for a learner's permit next week. She has read about this subject on 001 and has been after me fo awhile to do this. Then I will find a driving school for her to attend. I have to agree with the one's who have posted about this subject to get a driving school; don't try to teach them yourselves. She has learned a good lesson from this and that makes it all worth while. I don't think she will take driving so lightly now. Link to comment

Larry & Meirong
One of the most unbelievable aspects of China was traveling there. On the road from Guilin to Liuzhou, we passed a man working on his truck by the side of the road. He was naked!! It was June, very hot, and there he was by the side of the tollway. In Liuzhou, it took some getting used to when the taxi driver drives up on the sidewalk and deposits you and your wife at the door of the restaurant. I saw an old man sitting on a folding chair IN A LANE OF TRAFFIC, watching traffic go by on a hot summer night. Seeing people walk in the street, while motorcycles and some cars drive on the sidewalk was pretty unusual. Link to comment
Orrin
Carl, My wife had to produce her Chinese driver's license just to be able to take the written test for her learner's permit. Had she not produced it, she would have had to got to driving school before taking the written test. Strange laws here in Utah. Link to comment

I was riding on the back of a motorcycle on a very busy road, when I told the driver we better turn around and go back to the hotel. He agreed, and turned around and started driving on the same side of the road, directly into the oncoming traffic that we had been travelling. Funny thing none of the people that were swerving around us, gave us any strange looks. To them it was just a common experience. Link to comment
warpedbored
The big question is if she is legally alowed to drive here with a Chinese DL. I seriously doubt it. Link to comment
Orrin
She is not allowed to drive on her Chinese license, at least not in Utah. I'm pretty sure that in any state she will have to get a learner's permit before she can drive. Link to comment
