Why husband # 36

Q. Why do airports, highways, many signs in China write it in Chinese and English, but here in America they only write it in English?

A. Well ... hey look at this McDonalds cup ... it says "I'm lovin' it" in Chinese.

Wife - Thats Korean, the other line is Chinese.

Me - I guess I did'nt learn to read Chinese very well.

Wife - Right. Good thing GZ does'nt ask you to write something.

Q. Why is it you were born in nineteen fifty four but this year is two thousand four not twenty  four?

A.  Because thats just the way people talk I guess.

Interesting question.

I think people always use what is easiest. In this case, compare:

One Thousand Nine Hundred Fifty Four

Nineteen Fifty Four

Twenty Four???? (Kind of ambiguous)

Twenty - Oh - Four....

Two Thousand Four

- Oh - Four

I assume that by the year 2021, they will use:

Twenty Twenty One (or Two Thousand Twenty One).

I doubt I will make it to 2104, but I have no doubt that it will be called:

Twenty-One-Oh-Four

rather than using

Two Thousand One Hundred Four

My grandmother was born in 1890 She always said eighteen and ninety not eighteen ninety. When talking about the turn of the century she would say ought two or what ever year yet we don't say ought two It's not just whats easiest it also depends on the trends of the era.
