Randy W
A three day holiday this year (Sat., Sun., and Mon.), since the Golden Week is still a week away - but 2 of the three days are weekend days anyway - lol. What is Mid-Autumn Festival all about? Chinese legends, lanterns, and mooncake mountains in Hong Kong explained Ancient event was held to celebrate family while giving thanks to crop harvest, and its spirit lives on, albeit altered to suit contemporary culture Edited September 20, 2021 by Randy W (see edit history) Link to comment

amberjack1234
Aaaaaah the ole moon cake time of the year. On one of my visits to China, the wife bought me an assorted tin box of them. There wasn't one single one of them that I could finish eating. Moon cakes baaaah. Now having given my view of them I am not saying that there aren't any that I wouldn't eat and love but I haven't found one yet. Link to comment
Greg.D.
.... from KFC in Hong Kong ....Mmmmmmm ..... tastes like chicken! The local Confucius Institute does their mid-Autumn festival today (Sep 12), I guess so they can be echt-Chinese motherland. Starting it at 4:30 doesn't help me attend, esp since I rode my bike to work today and would have to get home, get the MIL and car and kid. Tomorrow, will be walking to one that starts at 5 in my neighborhood and I will make a point of leaving work a little early. MIL has already bought some moon cakes; no time stamp for creation or expiration - not like they would taste any differently. 1 Link to comment

Good for them. Beijing boxed themselves into a corner here - the Hong Kong police aren't capable enough to control the demonstrations, and yet the PLA is forbidden by the Basic Law from intervening, unless it gets EXTREMELY out of hand. If the protesters can manage to restrain the violence, I expect it can continue. Notice that the Basic Law also prevents Hong Kong from having any kind of a military force of their own. Carrie Lam's line about "serving two masters" is BS. She either doesn't have a clue about how to handle it, or doesn't want to. from the SCMP on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/scmp/videos/1621540137981776/ South China Morning Post Quote As some celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival with Tai Hang’s fire dragon dance and lanterns at Victoria Park, thousands marked the day by climbing and forming a human chain on Lion Rock.
