Thomas Promise
A really scary story about 9 volt batteries. The holidays are here now and this is good info. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=CnVDayI-gwI Edited December 6, 2014 by Thomas Promise (see edit history) Link to comment

Randy W
Some of those little battery packs pack a tremendous amount of power - a USB pack with car starter cables http://laughingsquid.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/jumpr-640x424.jpg Link to comment
danb
The TV reporter stated at the very end of the story that only 9 V batteries have this problem. I would disagree with her. Other lower voltage batteries could cause the same type of problem. The problem starts when any - and + terminals are shorted together. The problem escalates when that happens and the battery has a higher current output capabilities. Be careful. Danb Link to comment

Danb The 9V batteries have a greater problem because the terminals are right next to one another. The terminals can be easily shorted out when they come into contact with ANY piece of metal. Other batteries which have terminals at opposite ends of the batteries aren't so easy to short out. Link to comment
