Medical care in China

Hello, recently I have been thinking about the medical care that is available in China. How good is it? Is their hospital care on top of it. Is it first rate? Are they good in treating serious problems such as heart problems and cancer.

At work last night I was reading an article on an incident that happened in Gansu province. It was a little scary. I couldn't find the same article today but here a link that tells about the incident:

Last night I was probably attracted to the article because the use of the word bubonic in it. When I was searching for the article today many of the articles on the net used the term pneumonic plague. I thought that the bubonic plague was something that occurred 500 600 years ago. There were several interesting points made in the articles.

"The nine-day quarantine period ends tomorrow..........

Authorities began sealing off the area on Wednesday last week, when the patient died in a local hospital. The isolation period was set at nine days on advice from doctors, Xinhua reported."

I wonder how long it would have taken to have a quarantine set up in the US. The other thing that I thought was interested that this story started about 10 days ago. CNN and other news organizations only started to report this incident yesterday.

I am more interested in the quality of health care in China but I thought the plague story was in interesting also so I decided to combine both stories. Has anyone had to deal with cancer and the it's treatment or heart issues in China? Danb

Keep in mind that medical care in China provides services for rich Chinese and rich or well-insured Westerners, and then there is the rest of everyone else. You can find a Western hospital or two in major Chinese cities like Shanghai and Beijing. Most notably Shanghai opened the American medical center a few years ago that provides top tier consulting from the best doctors worldwide.

American Medical Center, Shanghai, China

Shanghai United Family Hospital provides a variety of services for rich Chinese and Westerners:

One of the better Western Hospitals in Hong Kong, Matilda Hospital Hong Kong, China

Also consider the International SOS facility:

Outside of these options you will be better off finding a local witch doctor in whatever village or city your stuck in.
