Bill & Li Hong
We are filling out my wife's N-400 and it asks about total days outside the USA per trip and total. If you leave the USA at Noon on the 1st and land in China on the 2nd at 3:00 PM, then leave China at 5:00PM on the 10th and return to the USA at 5:00PM and the 10th, How many days were you outside the USA? 10? 9? 8? dnoblett
Count the days based on date left it was in the states, and the date in the states when returned. Just subtract date left from date returned, rounded to the nearest whole day. Left on 1st, returned on the 10th (10 - 1 = 9 days) Don't bother with the odd hour. Or if less than 24 hours the time away is 1 day. For example Toronto is a 3 hour drive from my home, if we make a day trip up there and back, it counts a 1 day even though we crossed into Canada at 9 am and crossed back around 8 pm (11 hours) it still counts as 1 day.
