Interesting one, yes the US passport can allow visa free travel to a lot of countries.

USA 172

China 43

The world's most powerful passports: Infographic reveals which nations have the best access to the world (clue - Britain trumps the USA, Canada AND Australia)

It is not much comfort to those holidaymakers who are cancelling trips because they haven't received their passports in time - but the UK travel document is one of the most powerful in the world.

British passport holders can enter more countries in the world than America, Canada, Australia and Germany.

In fact, UK passport holders have the best access to foreign countries in the world, along with Finland and Sweden, according to this information put together by GOOD Magazine.

The two Nordic countries and Great Britain can visit 173 countries using their passports, enjoying visa-free access or simply getting a visa on arrival. In comparison, US citizens and Germans can visit 172 and Canadians can only visit 170 and Australians 168.

The heat map reveals that - unsurprisingly - Europe, North America and Australasia have the best access to the world. While, South America has moderate access and people in Asia and Africa struggle to travel at all.

The nation with the least power in their passport is Afghanistan, with citizens only able to visit 28 countries without a visa, or being given a visa on arrival.

Iraq, Pakistan and Somalia also come bottom, with access to just 31 or 32 countries.

UK 173 US 172. That's only one country difference. Now I wonder which countries UK passport holders can visit without a visa that US passport holders can and vise versa.

The Shaghaist had a different spin on this one, Hong Kong passport has many of the privileges of UK and many places a mainlander has access to. They base access on Square KM, and total populations of countries the passport holder has visa free access to.

This one popped up again here at the Washington Post. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2015/04/15/a-ranking-of-the-worlds-most-powerful-passports/

Looks like UK and USA are tied on the index.
