skibum
Just to let everyone know that there are changes in the proceedure for getting a tourist visa. Best check the State.gov site before you get started. There is a new form that can be filled out on line and preference will be given to people who use these forms as they are bar-coded. There is now a charge for calling to get an appointment and this can be paid in several ways including credit card. As of March 3rd there will be one number for all of China to call. They promise better service with this number. It would be hard to be worse. Link to comment
Mike and Ying
Thanks for the info. Has any of us black hole members tryied to get a vistor visa yet? I would love for the in-laws to come for a vist but I think it would be best to wait a couple of years. Link to comment
skibum
Maybe we will be the first. We are trying to get them here this summer and will keep everyone updated. Link to comment
keelec
I thought I remember reading earlier that some people tried multiple times to get inlaws to come. While rejections are frustrating and heartbreaking, they apparently don't have a lot of bearing on later applications. And, some visas were issued after a half a dozen attempts. There may not be a reason to wait unless one thinks some of the new BS from our government is spewing out will actually reflect reality, and they will start encouraging people to come (with the expectation that they would later leave). ----- Clifford ----- Link to comment

skibum
Update - maybe things do change for the better! We tried to call the new number several times but always were told it was a bad number. Had Mom in law call from Nanjing and she got right through. They have an interview date of April 12th and the lady on the phone reassured Mom that there was no reason to be nervous, that it is just like talking to anyone. And they did not ask her to pay any money for the call. WOW! Link to comment
